Got back in the US on Friday PM from Bahia Asuncion. The road is in good condition, with the usual potholes here and there. The bridge at El Rosario
is not passable and you'll have to drive through the riverbed, it's graded and is hardpacked and presented no problem for our 25' 5th wheel. The
bridge at San Vicente has been filled with dirt/rocks at the south end and is graded for a very short distance, about 25 meters, so you'll need to
slow down a bit. A few of the vados along the way have deteriorated the blacktop and created some potholes, so if you see water crossing the road slow
down and maybe save a blowout or bent axel. Feliz Viaje.
Two dirt roads diverged in Baja and I, I took the one less graveled by......

San Diego to Loreto - Sunday Feb 7-8th
Crossed @ Otay (5:30am) - spent 30 in with Mex Customs. Expedition loaded & towing a 5x8 utility trailer about half full of household supplies
for a 5 month stay - no duty charged - very pleasent experience.
It had rained in San Diego Fri & Sat - roads were still wet Sunday morning but not raining. Took Blvd 2000 to Rosarito Beach. No southbound
on-ramp to access HWY 1. Had to stay on the Free Road - the dirtiest part of the trip - all the way from Rosarito Beach to Cantamar due to road
construction.
North end of San Vincente Bridge approach is repaired but slow down. Vincente Guererro Bridge is damaged and you cross in the riverbottom - very
passable for all vehicles.
The north end of the El Rosario bridge approach was being repaired so traffic was routed down through the river bed. It was smooth & dry. No
delays, just slow down when crossing.
There was a trickle of water in vados both north & South of Catavina. Slow down as it is a bit rough.
All this may be mute with the next set of storms due to hit tonight - Feb 8th-9th.

As of today (2/13/10) is there any more news on the road conditions from TJ to La Paz via Hwy 1???

We drove up from Loreto to San Diego beginning around 1:00PM Friday, stopping in Catavina for the night (see below about the hotels in GN where we
intended to stop), then the rest of the way to San Diego today (2/13/10). The only road conditions different from what is posted above is there are
more COWS nibbling on the new grass alongside the road than in years past...so watch for them! 
Also, beware of "full" hotels in the whale-watching towns such as Guerrero Negro....no reservation, no room!

Came through San Quintin last Thursday night and found all the motels on the highway full. Went to our old standby Los Cirios, a couple of blocks east
of the highway, on the street between Villas de SQ and Maria Celeste, and lots of rooms left there. Nothing fancy but adequate for an overnighter.
Also, found the road from Tecate to Loreto in remarkable good shape considering the storms of late. Even the washed out bridges's bypasses and
repaired sections were easy to negotiate. With a very low clearance sedan, I may add.

Rained pretty hard here for about an hour. It's stopped now, but I don't think it's over. My house is maybe 500 feet in the air and I'm in a cloud.

last week from ensenada to tecate there still is 10 miles of dirt
i'd avoid this if it's raining
from tj to ensenada the toll road is kinda bumpy during the first toll
after that on the next two tolls... all new paving
it was drizzely..not bad
the two damaged bridges are easy to pass
lots of trucks and cars everyday
when driving on the bridge at el rosario going north
it looks like quite a drop off
its fine just go slow
no problems either way

Not bad. Just watch the road edges. some got washed out but they are repairing them quickly.

LIght rain in Vicente Guerrero today but it is over now the sun is shinning and it looks great outside. even a little warm.
so our by pass is ok.

There has been more rain, so there will probably be more mud, but they seem to be on top of it quickly.

There have been no problems reported on the repair areas along the highway, apparently last weekend rains had no impact. This is a copy from an e-mail
I just received from a friend... he drove from Guerrero Negro to San Diego yesterday afternoon (March 8th, 2010):

Do you know if they have fixed the road in the hills south of El Rosario? There was one very bad spot on a large curve where the dirt had been washed
away from under the road. The road was still there, but they were using only one lane last week.
They had heavy equipment that looked like it was trying to move the dirt back up the hill.

beautiful 4-land concrete & 2-lane asphalt. WOW! See below.

Great photos, but really better if you could re-size them to the 800x600 pixal limit for posting on Nomad (on Photobucket.com this is the 15" monitor
setting you pick before uploading to Photiobucket from your PC, by clicking 'more options').... Helps us poor Nomad with small monitors from scrolling
sideways to see you photos and read the text.

Went as far south as San Ignacio. Got back Yesterday. Road is good except in only a couple of short sections, I forget where but no problem. Many
places it's the new wider lanes. El Rosario and I think it was Vincente Guerrero bridges still out. They've paved the river bed crossing at El
Rosario. They've also paved about 8-10 miles out of San Ignacio toward Laguna San Ignacio and working on more.
