I have interest in your upcoming poker run. Is it possible to get to your ranch via Mike's Sky Ranch? I would be coming from San Felipe north to Hwy 3 and then to Mike's.

This may sound stupid but could someone please explain how a Poker run works?

Only in a good 4WD/ Off Road rig. The road to Mike's from San Matias (Hwy. 3) is very good and fast. As soon as you leave Mike's there is a LONG, steep climb up the mountain and it is badly eroded and there are boulders from land slides...

Then several miles over the hills to Rancho El Coyote (or very near it) at which point you then have a good graded road for the remaining few miles to the paved observatory road. The Meling Ranch is just a couple miles to the east once you get to the pavement.

I did a full road log going the other direction back in 2005:

An off road race course is set up, and at each checkpoint you draw a poker card... best hand wins... in brief.

yeah DK you got it right. you get to draw a card random at each designated stop. we have airplane poker runs too and you hop airports to get the hand.
best hand wins prize.
i played another poker run once but it was a little different... it involved a gal, a school age summer, parents (hers) getting home early and following some "poker" i had to "run".....:lol::lol:
