la paz

HI,
Has anyone been diving recently in La Paz??? We have always gone with the Cantamar. Seen lots of whalesharks, decent life. The last couple of times even the divemasters compained about the divers/divemaster ratio being too large. the boats have broken down a bit. Last time we were out at Las Animas (long ways out) the boat was dead in the water a couple hrs. The conditions there can be tough. We haven't been out with the shop at La Concha in yrs. We didn't get out diving last yrs so maybe somethings have changed. If anyone has any input it would be nice. We plan to be down diving in cabo pulmo and la paz mid oct into mid nov.

Cantamar is closest to the islands, they are professional, have excellent gear and very nice and well maintained boats, so to me it seems like the best choice unless you don't like hanging out with Euros who often visit there.

Thanks gnukid,
We have been diving with the aguilar's since they only had 1 building. Nothing like a boat full of germans to make you feel small. Euros don't bother us at all. The cantamar has had the only ultralite to help find whalesharks. The groups are just very large. I was wondering if anyone else was around. But.... so far we have not seen other better options. Do you dive??

Hi Greta, I am an avid free diver and although I do dive with tanks too it's my preference to snorkel and free dive - to be one with the fish, it's just how I am. I coordinate with most dive companies in La Paz for my friends, I know Alejandra at Cantamar for many years, while most shops provide an excellent experience, if you are really into diving and you want to get started early and get back without suffering a long boat ride, simple, choose the location which is best suited geographically and has the most experience. The benefits to diving with Cantamar besides a great trip are you get to return easily and you can enjoy the afternoon at Cantamar or in Pichelingue bay, Balandra, or Tecolote or anywhere. I really like to free swim in the area too, just around the point.

Thanks gnukid. Back to the cantamar it will be. You're so lucky to have lung capacity. My husband can stay under forever when we snorkel. Me??? I have peanut lungs. I live at 6000 feet, I would consider myself very athletic, Uphill forever,,, no problem. Diving while snorkling.. I am PATHETIC. Still working on it. Thanks, your input on the board is always appreciated.
