BBP.....RIP...BPI....in the sky.

The Baja Bush Pilots has been renamed Bush Pilots International, expanding to include the US, Canada, The Bahamas, The Caribbean, and Colombia. In addition, the organization will continue to provide services in Mexico and Central America, as it has in the past.

Adding these additional countries, as well as providing flight information, insurance, and group trips for general aviation flights into Mexico and Central America for more than 30 years, the name “Bush Pilots International” better reflects the services that it provides, officials said.

Its website is being expanded to allow for Pilot Alerts and input from pilots in these countries. In addition to its group trips throughout Mexico and Central America, the company will now offer group trips in the US, Canada, and the islands of the Caribbean.

In addition to its Airports of Mexico flight guide, the company now carries Galen Hanselman’s Fly Idaho, Fly Utah, and Fly Montana pilots guides, as well as John & Betty Obradovich’s Bahamas and Caribbean Pilot’s Guide.

The Baja Bush Pilots was founded in 1970 by Arnold Senterfitt. In 1996, Jack and Karaen McCormick purchased the name and assets from Senterfitt and, over the past few years, increased its membership from 400 members to over 4,000 members. McCormick has been active working in Mexico including sitting on a Mexican senatorial committee that was charged to simplify rules and increase safety for GA aircraft flying in Mexico. In addition, he is a member of a Guatemalan flying club and works with flying clubs in Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, and Panama. McCormick also publishes the airport guide book Airports of Mexico, an English language airport guide book that lists all airports and most airstrips in Mexico.

The Baja Bush Pilots logo was created by Dave Deal for Arnold Senterfitt.

Back when Arnold was publishing his Airports of Baja California, there were hundreds of dirt airstrips on the peninsula... and many required the skill of a 'bush pilot' to land on them.

Hi Mike... The logo was on the back of the BBP application form, folded (see crease line) and inside the 1972 Airports of Baja book (the yellow loose leaf one)...

I just scanned it... Take you mouse and put it on the picture of the logo above, right click on the picture, then click 'Save Picture As...' and put it in your own folder...

Dave Deal is gone, Arnold is gone... Dave told me that Arnold never got around to paying for it... so sounds like it is Dave's property... Dave didn't have a problem with me posting it before... Lencho took out the crease line, so it is even better! Maybe ask Jack McCormick if he aquired the 'rights' to Dave Deal's BBP art? As Jack ended the Baja Bush Pilots... will he still want to use the tail dragger with boojum trees in the background for a logo?

Any rights to that art went to McCormick when he bought all the assets of the BBP from Senterfitt in the late 90s. If Deal allowed it to go on BBP copyrighted material like T shirts and the several volumns it was on plus the old newsletter then it amounts to a defacto release and no claim can be made by Deal's estate. Copyright and trademark laws state you have to "vigorously defend" against infringment all the time it occurs or if not the court holds that you don't care.
This is why you hear those stories about Southland Corp going after those convenience stores in mexico that were using the 7-11 verbiage. Ditto the chicken tiendas that were copying Col. Sanders - Pepsico went after them.

the BBP has not ended it is only a name change to an existing entity.

if someone used the logo sans permission it would, well could be actionable by BBP / BPI ownership but i doubt frankly that El Jefe has much interest in that.

would be fun to edit it for other purposes tho. unless/until someone with actual rights b-tches it is in the public domain now essentially.
