this one was caught off the canary islands in the Atlantic.

note: msn video. will run an ad first.
note 2: the bulldog in this vid looks like he wants to eat this thing and they are pulling him away from it.

holy calamari batman!!!

Let me put it this way if the ones in the sea of cortez got any where near that big I would not be doing any offshore spearfishing. The ones in the sea are on average 3 to 4' in length and very tasty I might add. fishin rich

On many occasions I have seen and been involved with Squid at 80 Lbs.
Several years ago , my Friend, Ulf Rasmussion.PHD of fisheries in Washington State came to Loreto and we fished for Squid. He brought in one near 80lbs and completely disected it at Rancho Sonrisa. He explained the strength of the Beak as well as the Nature of the Eye which is very close to the Human Eye.

I am very cautious when Snorkeling around the Islands. those Buggers can Bite!

don't kid yourself! the monsters of the deep

are out there.

it is assumed the giant squid does inhabit the SOC but has never been seen. a diver on a night dive, out of La Paz, this was widely reported, was attacked, drug under close to the boat, taken to 80 -100 ft depth before he was abruptly let go.

When they measured the bruises left by the suction tentacles and extrapolated from known evidence they inferred the monster might have had a mantle 20 -30 feet long!! and his overall length may be over a 100'.

these denizens are considered real, their only enemy the sperm whale.

I quit night dives in any water over 35' after i read that story in Readers Digest some years ago.
yes, i am chicken......hear me cluck!

Largest Known?

It has been reported that the Largest Know Squid /Octupus has been Photographed under the "Narrows Bridge" going across to Friday Harbor in the State of Washington.

Would be interesting if some one could do a research and determine if this is True.
