We took that same trip recently and loved it. Baja still rules, tho.

I went to Beijing in 2000

the money in stores is folded into a star and the coin(s) are inside. amazing. and all the stuff you buy comes in silk bags, rather than paper or plastic, which area brightly colored and gorgeous. the cloisonne vases and jewelery was incredible. the oddest part of the Great Wall is that all the steps are of different heights making it extremely difficult to climb them. We went in the summer and it was abominably hot and the salespeople were selling bottles water at $5 a bottle !!!!!!!!!!! Did not enjoy the food at all. thousands of people riding bikes on main streets. and there were rickshaws. and the pandas were filthy and I could see no water for them to drink. stressful. Baja Rocks.

My older boy went to China (for yahoo.com) last November. He said is was really nice......surprisingly modern and a hell of a lot of cars.

Old people are like the old cars, made of some tough stuff. May show a little rust, but good as gold on the inside.

That was happening to me also.
Now I put the whole thing onText Edit (on a Mac) first. Using the Photobucket image codes with my text between I just take my time with it and paste it all in.

The food was, with one or two exceptions, terrible and my Hong Kong born wife agrees. The best Chinese food is in San Francisco!

Looks like it was an excellent vacation, Marc.
I especially like the pix of that water city - romantic old style China.

Thanks Marc, great photos!

Tell us about the food there... any taco stands, or are there egg roll stands?

Nice pics and nice trip report---thanks for sharing it. My favorite photo is the night shot---nicely done. I have heard from other people that while they very much enjoyed a similar trip, they did not enjoy the food. San Francisco does have the best!

Thank you Marc for sharing your travels.

Thanks for sharing your trip ..... enjoy looking at "folks" trips, very much ... thanks again...

The terracotta warriors are truly amazing, as is most of China's culture and history...

mcfez... you must be really proud of your boy... his timing in his market could not be better... best of luck...

Thanks to all for their input on China.. it is someone we need to know a lot better.... :):)

Funny how those McDonald's are EVERYWHERE nowadays. Even my wife's family hometown, which is not a tourist destination has one. Thank God!!:tumble::tumble:
