Maui vacation

Just got back from Lahaina, on Maui. And also the Big Island.

Here is our condo view while in Maui!

Bob H, Thanks for the pictures. I was convinced somewhere in Baja was the place for me to retire. The fishing.:( The property ownership ?:?: Changed my mind. Now focused on Hawaii. Did you go to Hana?

Do you have a bumper sticker saying you drove/ survived the road to Hana?:lol: (did it in 1981)

Hana... yes. We did the entire island of Maui and also the Big Island all the way around. The two islands are just so different. I'll dig up some more images and post them later on.

There are lots of properties that can be had for a decent price (compared to San Diego, that is) with ocean views on the Big Island, for sure.

That road reminded me of driving in Baja, for sure. With our Baja driving experience, it was a breeze, even though a lot of it is 'one lane', the pavement made it very easy. You just had to keep your eyes open on those blind curves.

We stopped and ate some some of the best banana bread I've ever eaten at Julia's!

Thanks Ken, for the nice words. Coming from you, it means a lot.

For the cigars - I forgot to pack some in my spare tubos, dog-gone-it. The ones that were for sale over there in the smoke shops were way, way over priced, so I went cigarless on this trip. I'm talking $20 for a $5 cigar!

That Tsunami actually did some real damage over there. Right now, on the Big Island, both the Kona Village Resort, and the Four Seasons continue to be closed. In the case of Kona Village, it may never reopen. It's 45 years old and has been eclipsed by so many upscale properties nearby.

Went on a whale watching boat (snorkeling too) and got this shot of a breaching whale. It was hard to get a focused shot with the bobbing boat going on. But, here it is.

Thanks for these images.

I have had a love affair with Hawaii since my days at Pearl Harbor. That's been 52 years now. Many changes over the years. The one place that seems to have stopped time are parts of the island of Hawaii. That 1950's feel is slowly disappearing there also.

Kihei wasn't much and had no sidewalks back then and the road ended there except for a rough jeep trail to the lava fields.
