David K almost got wacked by yours truly!

After a series of punishing, no - *PUNISHING* 4WD trails on the Baja peninsula, I unfortunately had to take the Jeep out of El Rosario towards the US in case of more cooling issues. My meetup with TW, David K and Baja Cat had to get the Baja boot, unfortunately.

So, in Colonet on Hwy 1 last Friday at 1 p.m., I was driving (with my wife) along the ubiquitous narrow roadway where a roadkilled dog presented itself. A quick swerve of the overloaded Jeep Rubicon took me briefly into the oncoming traffic lane. Who did I nearly come into friendly contact with??? DAVID K of BAJA NOMAD!!

His sterling Tacoma with its' stellar safety and reliability record almost came into contact with my hulking Detroit beef. David K didn't react, nor did the 20 dirt bikes following him, or Baja Cat (Jose) as they traveled down to El Marmol.

It was a strange moment I wanted to share with everyone here at Baja Nomad.

There were 20 motorcycles behind David K, almost like he was the Pied Piper of Hwy 1!

There were motorcycles by the dozens traveling south along Hwy 1 for a race this weekend.

Ken the overheating thing is why I am currently changing out my 4 cylinder to a 6 cylinder in my jeep along with wanting more power for those mountain climbs outside of Loreto. Got an electric fan to also go with the special made heavy duty radiator on my Jeep. Once it is done I will be looking to hook up with you or David K on one of these runs to a campfire by the beach. Ah, beach, BBQ , good conversation and COLD BEER all in any order it happens, LOL. Keep Safe Amigo and Keep the Top Side UP,LOL. Too strange! Am glad that you both are alive telling this story!

Hi Ken, as I posted in the other thread (where Doug linked to this one)... none of us ever saw you (or recall your Jeep in our lane), and around the campfire Friday night, the 8 of us wondered if you would show up. Glad you are okay!

Perhaps, because you were supposed to be in Santa Maria or El Volcan that day, I wasn't expecting you to be northbound by Colonet then?

I mulled over leaving a note at the El Rosario Pemex, or posting a sign over one of the traffic signs, etc. But, in the end, we headed back to Los Pinos so that we could get some cash since I didn't have enough gas to reach Ensenada.

We reached Ensenada and stayed in Tijuana until late Saturday night before driving home. I even bought some Tijuana "Guerra's" at Smart and Final! What a great time. Sorry we couldn't hook up, though. I was dog tired after doing recon work on Mission Impossible for 3 1/2 hrs. with Aaron.
