I spoke with Tom of Club Zopilotos, and their 4WD Club will have all of their built rigs in attendance.

Also Jason Mayc-ck of JJ's Fab will probably be there to display some of his handcrafted fabrication work. This is already shaping up to be quite the summer event!

If you don't mind looking at mainly Jeeps and visiting with the Zopilotos. I plan on walking across the border, so we will have to exchange telephone numbers in advance.

Do YOU???:light:

IN 1940, responding to a development request by the army:

THE FIRST 'JEEP' 1940 American Bantam Pilot Model #1

The Next Model from American Bantam, The 1940 BRC-60 (69 built)

The first 1940 test models from Willys-Overland, The Quad (5 were built):

The first 1940 test models from Ford, The Pygmy (1 built):

and the Budd-Ford (1 built):

================================================

The Next phase of development, before we entered the war...

1941 Willys MA (Model A, 1,553 built):

1941 Bantam BRC-40 (2,605 built)

1941 Ford GP (G= Government, P= 80" wheelbase). 4,456 built

================================================

The WINNER, 1942 to 1945:

The WILLYS-OVERLAND MB (Model B, 335,531 built):

Because Ford was a larger company, they also built the Willys designed MB to meet the demands of the war, but called their Jeep the GPW (W=Willys). Ford built 277,896 Jeeps:

====================================================

Planning on a demand for the 4WD 'Jeep' after the war, Willys-Overland started testing civilian versions of the MB...

1944 CJ-1 ('Agri-Jeep'):

1944-5 CJ-2 (~45 built)

1945-9 CJ-2A (214,202 built)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

The CJ lived on and on with models CJ-3A, CJ-3B, CJ-5, CJ-6, CJ-7, CJ-8 (Scrambler) before being replaced by the lower and wider Wrangler models YJ, TJ, and now bigger JK.

Willys-Overland was purchased by Kaiser-Fraiser in 1953, and the name became Willys Motors until 1963 when the company name was changed to Kaiser-Jeep Corporation.

In 1970, American Motors Corp. bought Kaiser-Jeep Corp.

Chrysler bought AMC in 1987, primarily to have the Jeep brand. Then Chrysler merged with Daimler in 1998. The Germans who lost the war to the Jeep now own it!

Jeep history is very interesting!
