Sally, I am so glad to read that Juanita is having a good day. The good days are to be cherished, hopefully her strong spirit and the meds will get
her thru this.
Meanwhile, walk, continue to take care of yourself, continue with your conviction that you are on the right path. Remember, you are much needed by
those who love you, you are so fortunate to be loved, even when there is so much pain in the process.

Thanks Dick.My daughters are close by, and Juanitas' Dad is with her day in and out.I wish I could be with her but my health problems keep me from
beeing able to.
Happiness is just a Baja memory away...

How are your shingles? I know your daughter is your #1 priority, but I think shingles are the most painful malady one can have. Take special care!

Todays update.Just got off the phone with mija and she is doing really well today.She is eating now and off the pain meds! She told me she doesn't
remember the 10 days she spent in Mission Hospital at all.They had her so doped up.The doc says the chemo is kicking butt and her pain is almost
gone!! That woman is a fighter!My shingles are almost gone.I caught it fast and got antivirual meds for them, which I take 5 times a day.Yeah, Krafty,
shingles are miserable if left untreated.Unfortunatly, I cannot visit mija until they are totally gone, very contagious.Thanks Nomads,again,for your
prayers and well wishes.You guys and gals rock!!!!

did they tell you anything about the shingles vs a vs your history with chicken pox??
my mom just had shingles - wow what a terrible affliction!
i have had chicken pox which means either i will get shingles or i will not.
medicine.... a dark science it seems.

I recall tea tree oil (Melaleuca alternifolia) is a treatment for shingles... I will check my refrence on it...

I had it and did have chicken pox. It is also very much stress related.

Mike, Shingles are a form of Herpes Zostrer(don't ask me what that means).I have been told the Chicken pox virus lays dormant in ones body and becomes
Shingles when you are experiencing extreme trauma or stress.I have had an outbreak three times, the first when I was pregnant with my last baby, 8 1/2
months along and my husband told me he was leaving me for another woman.He did.Second time was 5 yrs. ago when I had emergency surgury for a rutured
abcess diverticuli.Now this one.Important that it be treated as soon as you even think you have it.HUGE difference!Yes they are very painful,
specially if they are on your buttocks(mine)!!!How di ur mom get rid of them??

I was watching a special about Shingles on T.V., they talked about a vaccine, that works only a percentage of the time, you have to have the shot
before you have an eruption, and there are no guarantees, maybe like 50% of the time it works, the older you are the less chance it can avoid them.
So, Mike you might investigate that option?

We used it on shingles when my mom had it. Also on chicken pox when my wife and daughters had it. BTW, you can catch the chicken pox from someone
that has the shingles. Turned out that my wife never had it and she was taking care of mom when she had the shingles. We used it a a topical
dressing over the affected areas. Boiled it in pot of water to soften the leaves.

Found that it soothes the skin and lessens the scarring later.
Old Mexican home remedy passed on to us by my wifes mother.
Btw, the malva grows like weeds around here.

OK as I didn't have the book in front of me I wasn't sure. There's a lot lacking in that book but its a good general reference. This plant is all
over the place and often it will be the only plant in bloom, it blooms throughout the year. The flowers are small like 1/4 inch in diameter. The
base is often woody and it grows to about 3 feet high

Oh, it could very well be in there... but under a different name or the web site's bio. name is incorrect...
Is there any other local names for the plant (without the words 'flor de' in it)?
EDIT: I just clicked on your photo and it gives the 'rest of the name' you left out... 'flor de malva rosa'... Malva rosa IS in the book! Page 267!!

I wonder if we are talking about two different plants that share the same local name? Roberts doesn't say anything about medical uses for the plant in
his book.
