side trip to BOLA in October
-thinking about shooting down to BOLA for a side trip during our week at Gonzaga Bay...stay for a couple days then back to GB for a couple days then
home
-looks like about 100 miles (+/-) so about 3-4 hrs?
-suggestions on places to stay...probably camping, maybe a hotel room or 2?
-fishing in the bay with a couple of tin boats and kayaks?

GB:
Alfonsina's serves up some really great meals, they serve really cold beer and the bar is fairly well stocked. They can also arrange fishing or
diving trips for you. You can make long distance calls from the hotel office. The rooms are decent....not the Hilton.
Papa Fernandez has a launching ramp, small basic needs store (not really a store), and great camp spots on the "other side of the hill. http://www.papafernandez.com/index.html
This is a perfect bay for fishing off your kayak !!!!! I have done wonders there off a kayak......(hint ...left side of the bay near the first cove,
out 800+ feet). Trigger fish is killer action in this area. Snorkeling is over by Punta Fina (Snoppy hill) about 10 miles away. Go into the
settlement....stay to your right.....dirt road next to a old house....goes over a hill. GREAT camp spot for fishing...snorkeling.
BoLA:
daggetts is a great camp spot with cover and BBQ units. You will find all you need here for hired boats. They also have a small motel that NOT the
Holiday Inn....but is great for the rough...we like it. www.campdaggetts.com
Down the road a bit...Villa Bahia Resort. You will find ALL your needs here. Kayaks to tank fill to hire boats. We love this place.

Thanks Deno...been to GB about 6 times..Punta Final last fall, but never to BOLA
just looking forward to cold cervezas and fresh fish tacos on the beach...last trip was in November 2010

I'm with mcfez on two of the greatest spots going. Sounds like you already know GB but head north out of Papa Fernandez along the rocky coast and drop
in a few rebel fastracks and the main problem is usually you have to stop so often because of all the strikes....fishing any of the points should
bring in some sierra as well. I would really talk to as many people as you can about "tin boats" (of which I have) in BOLA...it is a ways to any
decent fishing from many of the launches but if your expectations are not high, could be some fun. Definitely not an area you want to take risks in.
If by any chance money is not a problem (I wish I had that problem...) I would go with the locals and head out a ways for some serious action. Igor
out of Guillermo's really really REALLY knows the bay and that is a good time of year to be on the water. Your timing from GB sounds about right.
Costa del Sol in BOLA is a really nice place with a/c.

At BOLA Daggett's has good camping right on the water although his boat ramp washed away so we had to go into town to launch. This was last
September. It may be repaired by now. Del Sol is in town has a/c and a bar-cafe.
Sudden winds are a special problem there. Be careful when kayaking.

3 hour drive (max.) to L.A. Bay from Gonzaga Bay, if you are not in a hurry. 35 graded dirt miles to Hwy. 1, 30 miles on Hwy. 1, 41 miles on paved
L.A. Bay road.
Coco's Corner (22 miles from Gonzaga) is an interesting stop, specially if Coco is there.
Mision San Borja is 22 miles south of the L.A. Bay road is a must see if your schedule and interest allows... The furthest north stone built mission
in (Baja) California. Montevideo painted cliffs is 7 miles off the San Borja road and another beautiful site... The tallest boojum trees in Baja are
in this area, too.
Casa del Sol motel (and restaurant) is good (original rooms).

thanks for the input just what i was looking for...we keep the tinnie close in...very happy with the catch there..and have gotten caught in wind
once...which was one too many times...good trigger catch to make fresh fish tacos and I'm happy
have made the trip to see Coco each time we've been down there..last trip it was just guys in 4x4's...made the return from Coco's to Rancho Grande
market in 40 minutes

Hi Mike
We camped with you last year in the wind at Punta Final. If you have never been to BOLA it is worth the effort just to use Gonzaga as a stopped over
and maximize your time at BOLA. I agree that Daggets is the place to camp and you should have no problem launching your boat there since you are set
up for a beach launch. When in Oct are you going? If you like you can spend the night at the house, K43, and make it to BOLA the next day..

Hola Rudy...
we are going down oct 1 thru 7...sounds like Doug and some friends are going to join us..(not sure if their wives are going??) Sharon and I are going
down with our oldest granddaughter (7)..not sure if anyone else from our neck of the woods is going or not
thank you for the generous offer, and if I forgot to doit after last trip...thanks SO much for the "welcome to Baja carne and pollo asada"!!
