I had heard the Mayor of Ensenada shut it down for public use, however the Governor steped in and opened it for public use. What a freaking circus.
Reminds me of the time Sempra Energy opened a natural gas plant in Ensenada and the mayor wanted it shut down, eventually soldiers were brought in to
keep the Police from closing the place. It's no wonder why things don't get done. Wonder if Mexico has their debt ceiling adjusted.?

We have been informed by fairly reliable sources that the Mexican Military has started the process of closing MMES to all general aviation.
We have confirmed that the paperwork has been submitted and is working its way throught the chain of command and they have noted the target date for
closure as August 27th (11 days from today) and that is to be the last day for civilian use.
We are in daily contact with the DGAC at MMES who indicate that it is “business as usual at the airport” however check back with them every day as
things may change very rapidly. The private sector, including the BPI, has requested that this not happen however, the airport is military and the
military has made the final decision regarding this matter. This closure follows the closure of Tulum to civil traffic about a year ago. Located on
the Yucatan Peninsula, there was a lot of public pressure to keep it open however the military had the final say.

Yeah....I don't get it. It may be a military base, but it's little used....for anything. I can see what amounts to air traffic from my place and it
ain't much. More Attorney General Helos than anything else it seems and they don't need a landing strip.
Say goodbye to Cedros Island fishing trips.
There has long been talk about moving the waterfront military bases to other inland locations and I'm wondering if this adjustment could have that
goal in mind.

New Ensenada Airport
Maybe it's to put pressure on the Mexican Legislature for building a new Ensenada airport.
Several years ago there was talk floating around of a new Ensenada International airport up on the mesa where the free road joins the toll road.
Maybe Tiget Woods will build it to support Punta Brava

According to El Vigia the airport will remain open per the Governor Osuna, they will work with the Military to seperate the Civilian sector from the
Military but it will not close to Civilian flights at this time, this was reported in todays paper.

Actually, you make a great point. Ensenada could greatly benefit from a real, actual international airport.

According to today's el Vigia, our local pescado wrap, the airport will stay open. Apparently, the governor contacted the Department of Defense, which
in turn "promised" that yesterday's closure order would be rescinded.
