AA in South America, Email#4

From academicanarchist, today, touring missions in South America:

There were 30 Jesuit missions in Paraguay, Argentina (Misiones, Corrientes),
and in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Yesterday I visited three mission sites in
Misiones, Argentina: Martiries, which is a relatively isolated and
undisturbed site located on top of an impressive hill, accessible on a very
poor dirt road; Santa Maria la Mayor, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage
Site, and San Francisco Xavier. Only a handful of stones from the mission
church and some ruins survive from the last site. I also visited San Nicolas
in Rio Grande do Sul. My plan for today is to visit San Miguel, San Lorenzo,
and San Juan Bautista, also in Rio Grande de Sul. In another week I will be
in Posada, Argentina for five days. I will visit missions in both Paraguay
and Argentina during that visit. I have already taken a lot of photos, and
will post some when I return. San Miguel was loosely depicted in the 1986
movie "The Mission." Last night I attended a Light and Sound program at San
Miguel. Robert
