History of the Surf Board

The June issue of Popular Mechanics on page 160 has a brief history of the surf board. Interesting read. It started circa 500 with the sixth-century Polynesians and ends with Global Surf Industries layers fiberglass and hand-laid coconut husks over an expanded polystyrene core to create a surfboard that is 25% lighter and 35% stronger than most other boards.

The SAME boiling water that softens the potato hardens the egg. It's about what you are made of NOT the circumstance.

I thought Dale Velzy invented the surfboard. He told me he did while we were pounding 'em down in the Swallow's bar in San Juan Capistrano one day.

Are you sure it wasn't 'gotta Peso' in Catavina who invented the surf board?
