There's a delicious taco joint just after crossing the border, as a matter of fact I was just there today.
After crossing, go two blocks and turn left. It's on your right about 50 ft and it's painted red. Don't recall the name but can't miss it as you can see it as your going down the hill.

Taqueria Los Amigos

Fred,

It's on the street that runs N/S on the eastside of the Plaza that is just a couple of blocks south of the border crossing. It is one block south of the Plaza on the left (east) side of the road. I have only had the carne asada tacos, we like em.

That would be Tacos Los Panchos - great place!

That's a good place. Before the road to US changed, I could wave someone over to the truck, place an order and have it consumed right as I was crossing. I haven't found any good vendors going through the new crossing.

Fred, there is a nice restaurant to the west of the southbound border road, west from the park... 'La Mision' or 'Las Misiones' (I remembered the 'mission' part, just not if it was plural, sorry). It is on the south side of the street. In town, but on the Tijuana free road/ street... In case you wanted more than a taco shop...

Max and I ate there after we met the governor and mayor presenting them with our (mission) book. It made sense to do so! lol

Los Panchos is our friend Omar's place...awesome food! Enter border and at first light look left and on south side, can't miss it. He also owns the fish taco place on the corner but we always go to the carne side! Hit the Bar Diane for a margarita on the west side of the zocola. Then walk across street to zocola side where taxi's are and pay 5-6 bucks for a ride to La Mision (restaurant). They all know where it is. The bacon wrapped shrimp and the tortilla soup are killer! The ceaser salad is pretty good to. When done, wait out front for the old school bus to come by and ride it back to town for a few pesos. If your not sure stick your head in the door and ask "Centro zocola?". You'll end up in front of it on the main street or behind it in front of the Catholic church you saw walking towards the Diane.
If your Catholic, forgo the cup at communion, he might wipe the rim but it's still takes a lot of faith to put your lips to it after 100 of the locals!

This place was good years ago when it was a taco stand but it blows now that they tried to get fancy. Was there last July and the service was slow and the food not so fresh.

Yes! Tacos Los Panchos...I'm Jonesing for a plate full just thinking about them.

Will have to try La Mission one day soon, sounds good. Does it have a full bar??

Slightly off topic but we ate breakfast this morning at Restaurante Ruta 97 on the grade a few miles outside of Ensenada heading to Tecate and it was pretty awesome. The owner positively stuffed us with pastries and fresh local cheese prior to the actual meal which was stellar. We won't pass up an opportunity to eat here again.
