on December 3 & 4, 2004

Rub?n Lozano Lucero is one of the most awarded potters in the village of Mata Ortiz in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico. In 1993, he received the First Prize for a black polished pot in FONART?s Concurso Nacional de Artesan?as (National Artisan Contest) and was personally presented with the award by Mexican president Carlos Salinas de Gortari. In 1995 and 1997, he received additional First Place awards in various national art competitions. Influenced by the work of Macario Ortiz, Rub?n is famous for his highly polished, reflective blackware. Take advantage of this exclusive opportunity to meet the artist at work and purchase his latest one-of-a-kind pieces at specially discounted prices. Also meet Rub?n?s wife, Anastasia Lozano, who specializes in blackware, and Macario Ortiz? nephew, Jes?s Navarrete Ortiz, known for his polychrome on black ceramics.

5 pm: ?Guadalupe, an Island in Heaven,? a 45-minute slide presentation of new Baja California images by renowned Ensenada photographer Alfonso Cardona

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 4 ? POTTERY DEMONSTRATION & SALE
11 am-noon: Pottery forming (by hand)
Noon-1 pm: Burnishing and decorating
1-2 pm: Pottery firing using dried cow chips
