It would be nice to be able to post photos directly...
how hard would that be to implement?

I post them directly from my photo album web site (photobucket.com), or my web site (vivabaja.com)... You can attach a photo (one at a time) from your
PC to here, but it must be under 50 kbs.
If you post from another web site (photobucket.com or any web site where the photos are hosted) you can put several photos in one post.
I am happy to help you do this!
PS Doug is working on upgrading this site so it will post (and reduce the size to fit) from your PC to here.. but this has been a long time project...
so if you don't want to wait, join photobucket.com or another site and paste the photo links right here, right now!

HOW TO
We can help! Here's the step by step using one of the photo hosting sites 'Photobucket.com':
[UPDATED JULY 2013}
Here are the steps for anyone else...
1) Make an album on Photobucket.com for the subject or group of photos... or just to put photos you want to share on Nomad and other forums.
2) To set the size of the photos (does not reduce the quality) to fit here you click on your name at the top of the Photobucket page.
Click on User Settings.
Click on Albums (top of page). Scroll down and see Upload Options and just below that is 'Customize Upload Options', click on that.
Click 800 x 600 for maps or max. size to fill the Nomad page or click 640 x 480 for large size photos that don't fill the page. Nomad is an 800 pixel
wide frame, and if you don't resize to 800 or less, the entire page will stretch off the standard monitor and require sideways scrolling. You only
need to do this step once or if you wish to change it.
Click SAVE.
3) Click on the big Upload box at the top center of the Photobucket page and simply select the photos you want from your PC folder.

To show your photos on a Nomad page:
1) Place your mouse on the thumbnail photo in your Photobucket album and select the IMG link of the links box that pops up or is already there, copy
that IMG link with your mouse (left click, right click, click copy).
2) On your Nomad post, paste the photo link by right clicking your mouse, and click paste.
Add a caption below the photo if desired and double space between photo links so there is a separation between them.

I know but.. most modern websites allow you to be able to post directly from your hard drive - how hard would that be to implement?

Be nice to post like on FB but I imagine it'll take a lot more data storage space as well as buying the software.......maybe if we all pitched in Doug
would do it?

Get your images on to photobucket. <http://s1086.photobucket.com>
Set your account to copy photos at 600 X 800 pixels. Each photo has an image code. Just copy paste the code to your post. For multiple image
postings I use text edit on my Mac, do up the whole thing there then paste it all on to the post. See my Copper Canyon With diego Rhodes trip report
on non Baja trip Reports. ( several months ago).
It does take a while to get it right, but if I can do it anyone can.

You already can post photos directly. Because of a technical concern, there's a file-size limitation is all.
As David mentions, it's on my list of things "to do" to make the next upgrade to the board software. With this, the file size limitation will be less
of a concern - and the latest version allows multiple images on one post, and automatically creates thumbnail sizes within the post.
I have a couple of other projects (on this site) that I need to accomplish before this can be done though. One step at a time, but I'm getting there.

Actually, there's a lot of unused space on the forum server's hard drives. Again, it's just a technical issue as far as how the files are currently
saved that causes the need for caution on attachment file size.
Just to point out again, one CAN post files directly to the site from their hard drive without using a third-party service like Photobucket. The
limitation is the file-size however.

The focus up to this point has been to make sure the site at least pays for itself. It is doing that fortunately. The expense of hosting this site
is nearly $150/month. It's the sole site on a dedicated server - since mid-2006 I believe. I will likely need to upgrade the server in the very near
future.
