availability of galv. metal studs??

This may have been asked and answered many times but I could not find it so here it goes...

Has anyone seen galv metal studs 4" or 6" available in any material supply store in BAJA?? some call them drywall studs

Or,, do you have to go to the states and pay the duty to bring em down...
I can find the red metal channel in 4" 6" and 8" locally in Mulege... or Santa Rosalia... a little pricey but may be the way I will have to go... the red iron works pretty good but best if you can get someone with a good welder...

this should stir up a lot of action...

http://www.amsdemexico.com.mx/sucursales.htm

Purchased 6" galv/steel studs for my house in 2007 at the Ensenada AMS store.

I would think there would be distribution available south. If, no, call AMS and negotiate. And please keep us posted on your project.

If you go to the EAST cape after a hurricane, you can pick them up for free all over the campo.

mtmpop,

Are you building in Mulege ? If possible I'd like to see this project when you get it going

A possible lead on the galv studs -- Go see "Alvaro" in San Bruno

He built several metal framed houses there and may be able to point you in the right direction for a supply.

Hope this helps

Lumber yard on mex 1near San Bruno turnoff on the west side of road. Don't recall the name, checked my Garmin and I did not have the km#. Newer place and was impressed with the steel he stocked, but I don't recall steel studs. If you need any quantity he or Pedro Yee at the lumber yard in Mulege could order for you. I found that local may cost a little more but in the end it is the same as the big stores/cities after all the running. Good luck!

Your input has been much appreciated.... I have not been into Guerro's supply store at San Bruno this year yet... He used to have the store out at Chivato which is now closed. His supply of lumber is usually the best in the area....
Having retired from contracting in the high country of Colorado I am in a whole new ballgame now... No snow load,.. etc.... Designing and having anything built is really taxing my old brain....
Design and communicating same to the local builders sometimes looses much in the translation in the end...
But, we will see what we come up with....
thanks again...
