Mexicali's Fiestas del Sol.

Hola -

For anyone interested - Mexicali's Fiesta del Sol this year will take place between September 26 and October19. The Fiestas del Sol is kind of like a country county fair in the US. There'll be sections dedicated to showing off the city's universities and industries as well as the usual stuff you see at a fair like food, music, rides, and games. In conjunction with the fair there will be daily special events like concerts, off-road racing, bicycle racing and stuff like that - exactly what you'd expect in an ag county fair.

If you're not familiar with Mexicali you might consider spending a couple of days there taking in the fair and some of the other cultural/entertainment type things it has to offer.

Normally the bull fight and baseball seasons open in October so you might be able to coordinate things - I'd have to check dates.

Mexicali's a big town but at the same time it's about the friendliest city you'd care to visit. If you've never really spent time in a mexican city this might be a good opportunity. The girls are pretty cute there too - but that's probably a theme for some other board.

Lodging runs the gamut price-wise and quality-wise.

Unfortunately I couldn't find a good site that explains the Fiestas de Sol in much detail in english. For starters you might try:

http://www.mexicaliturismo.com/english/event_09.html

For the spanish-parlantes amongst us go to:

www.fiestasdelsol.com.mx

If anyone has specific questions post ?m here - we'll get ?m answered.

Take care.

Braulio.
