Same place.

I enjoyed my stay here 10 years ago.

Good people, good food. Nice place to stay.

I'm very glad this ranch is still open for visitors. I visited there several times in the 1950's and '60's and really enjoyed what they had to offer. We went back again late 1990's and enjoyed it again. I think I'm ready for another visit.

Thanks, that was a good read. The way I understand it now is David (runs the ranch) is married to a Meling. Never met her but he is a heck of a nice guy.

Yes, a great book on life in the region in the early 1900's!

ehall wrote this part: "Thanks, that was a good read. The way I understand it now is David (runs the ranch) is married to a Meling. Never met her but he is a heck of a nice guy." not me.

When using Quote, one needs to add comments AFTER the tag [/quote ] so the reply doesn't get included with the other person's quote.

I have stayed there several times the last few years... Great family, nice rooms and great meals...all family style. If you like beer or alcohol bring your own they do not or did not stock any.. It is just a nice place to get away too. They are really trying hard to get more business there. Lots of day rides to pacific side, they did a poker run from there a couple years ago..

Enjoyed reading the part of the book, thanks for posting it. I brought back good memories of my visits there in the 1950's. Phil was there as a ranchhand. I remember he was outside so much his hands got like leather and also cracked like leather. I gave him some lotion I had. One of the guys shot a deer for food, hung it to bleed and a mountain lion tore it to shreds. I was there with Bud Bernhard who frequented the ranch. Later, in the 1970's, one of the Meling clan became my patient in my Encinitas medical office.

Still other worthwhile reasons to go up there. Those antiquated ol' crones and cronies couldn't stay up late enough to see it anyway.

I've heard the streams up there have trout the size of albacore.

A friend and myself flew in there years ago. Great place. One of the Melings (Dwayne I believe) and his dad suggested we visit their condor "farm" up above their ranch. That was another great side trip.

Ehall:

When you visited, who among the Melings were there?

Did they prepare a group dinner for you?

Is their airstrip still in reasonable shape?

Thanks.
