Calling a Baja cellphone from US phone vs. ??
I hope someone can clear this up. I have a US cell phone (AT&T) that roams excellent in Baja through TelCel
If I want to call a Baja cell# from the US I was told to dial:
011-52-, then 044 ?, then the rest of the the Mexican number....
But when I am IN Baja with the roaming US cell phone just dial the regular Mexican cell number without the 011-52-044...... sound right?

When you are IN MX, and calling from your US cel, you need to dial 001 first. then you would need to dial the area code. I don't know the area code
for where you are dialing, but heres an example 011-521-624-555-1212
If it were a landline you were dialing, it would be 011-52-624-555-1212
Important dial difference is that when calling a cell FROM the US or a US phone, you must dial a '1' after 011-52 .. so an example would be
011-521-624-555-1212

I am in the Ensenada area with a u.s. Verizon cell.
To call a mexican cell phone from here I dial 044.646.123.4567.
044-for cell
646-area code
The rest is the cell number.
Before I put the number in my phone book I called the mex cell while it was next to me to be sure it worked this way.

Hmmm....I have ATT and when I dial a Mexican cell phone all I have to do is dial the O11 52 1 and then the area code and number. From my Mexican Land
Line to a Mexican Cell Phone I have to dial 044 and then the area code and number. That's how it works for my iphone anyway.
Whenever I hear that rainy, chill wind blow. I think it may be time to head for Mexico. Tengo que obedecer mi corazon!

Not to add to the confusion, but I have a TMobile cell phone and did not have to include the "1" between the country code and the area code to make a
call to a Mexican phone number. For example, 011 (international access code) + 52 (country code) + 612 (area code for Todos Santos / La Paz) + number.

You do not need to call 044 (or 045). That is only for landlines.
MX Cellular to MX cellular: dial LADA (area code) + 7 or 8 digit number
MX Cellular to MX landline: dial LADA + number
MX landline to same-LADA MX cellular: dial 044 + LADA + 7 or 8 digits
MX landline to other-LADA MX cellular: dial 045 + LADA + 7 or 8 digits
MX landline to same-LADA MX landline: dial 7 or 8 digits
MX landline to other-LADA MX landline: dial 01 + LADA + 7 or 8 digits
US cellular in MX to any MX cellular: dial +521 + LADA + 7 or 8 digits
US cellular in MX to any MX landline: dial +52 + LADA + 7 or 8 digits

The correct answer depends on WHERE you are calling FROM, and WHERE you are calling TO, as well as whether you are calling FROM a US or MX cel or
landline, and calling TO a MX cel or landline

BTW, that + I put in my response (+521 or +52) is a thing you can get your cell to do... it automatically detects the required international access
code from the network and translates the + to it. So in the US +12135551212 would translate to 011-1-213-555-1212 and if your phone is in Mexico it
translates to 00-1-213-555-1212.

if you have an ATT cell plan, make sure to get the VIVA MEXICO Calling Plan: your calls will be billed as local minutes (just as if you were calling
in the US) whether it's an outgoing or incoming call... to call a cell number JUST dial it: Mexican area code+cell number (615-xxx-xxxx)...DONE...get
a DATA GLOBAL Add-On PACKAGE (it's monthly and you get billed for the time used: prorated) and stay in touch with email and surf the web: it comes in
bundles of about 130MB for around $30.00 dlls...find the COVERAGE of your ATT Phone in this link:

the previous info is for dialing a cell number while in Mexico, to call the US just dial area code plus the number... I have the AT&T Viva Mexico
FamilyTalk 1400 with Rollover Plan,,, when I call a LAN line in Mexico from the US it's also billed like local minutes to my plan...

How do you set up the plus?
I continually have problems dialing Mexican phones from my US AT&T cell while I am in Mexico. Numbers I can dial from the US never seem to work
when I am in Mexico. There are so many answers above it is still not clear to me.
044 or 1 before a cell number? Where does the + fit in? Sometimes the 044 has worked for me, other times not - what's up?

Depends on the make of phone. On an iPhone, the key where the * should be is marked with a few characters (it opens a new keyboard where you'll find
the +). On a Nokia, you used to have to hold the 0; on a Motorola, you held the *. Or maybe it was reversed.
In any case, the international, worldwide standard for phone numbers is this:
+countrycode citycode number
So the White House would be +1 202 4561414, the Elysee Palace is +33 1 42928100 and Sanborns on La Revu would be +52 664 6881433.
You can program any cellular phone anywhere in the world this way and it will work as long as it has a usable signal; the switch downconverts to the
local equivalents.
THAT SAID...
If you really don't want to use the + or you can't find it, and you are calling Mexican phones from a US cell in Mexico, you simply dial the LADA and
number from your US cell, regardless of where you are in Mexico. So, for the Sanborns above you would just dial 664-688-1433. No prefix.
The 044, 045 and 01 code are used when calling from MEXICAN LANDLINES ONLY. 044 means you're calling a cell phone in the same area code (an area code
664 cell phone from Tijuana, for example), 045 means you're calling a cell phone in a different area code (an area code 664 cell phone from Rosarito),
and 01 means you're calling a landline in a different area code (an area code 664 landline from Rosarito).
