New Baja Norte Road?

Flying from Ensenada back to San Diego a couple of weeks ago, I noticed a huge new road(?) that was being built. It seemed to come from way east of Tijuana and appeared to end around the Catamar area. Any idea on the project?

Tecate to Fox Studios

designed as a new route to keep the trucks out of TJ and Rosarito. Good idea.
What it will also do is open up a quick way for people from Mexicali and Tecate to get to the beach. Oughtta be interesting during the summers!

If FOX Studios get their way, you will also be seeing an airport up there so the "Stars" can fly in.

You probably saw

that those developments are going in everywhere between Real del Mar and Salsipuedes in the hills.
Most of those lots are already sold. Originally they were going for around $16,000 and $18,000. They were selling so what they seem to have done is cut the lots in half and raise the prices. Twice as many lot's for mucho mas dinero.
The problem with most of those developments is that they don't have underground utilities so your view is of power, phone and cable lines before you see the ocean.
And, until the streets get paved, those areas are slicker n snake snot when it rains.

Hey, neat! Right in the center of that shot is my deli. Bordering the east of the vacant ocean lot. Puerto Nuevo is to the left and the Grand Baja Resort hotel is to the right.

Juan, got any more of the immediate surrounding area?

...and this is above (I think) what they use to call "Raul's" at an exit off the toll road before we started to head east and picked up the new road under construction. I could not believe how much developement is taking place at such a fast pace!

Unfortunately my friend

we had best be getting used to it. My first trip to Peque?a was about 15 years ago. There weren't any white folks besides 1 camper. Alan Bray was his name and he was pretty well known out there. And he wasn't even a surfer.
Ever heard anything about him ? Seemed like a good dude!

Thank you Fernando!

Here is the small map from that page... Seems like they are serious about improving the flow of commerce, agriculture, and people between the east side of Tijuana (Otay Border and south), Tecate, Mexicali AND Rosarito and points south. Agriculture from San Quintin and Camalu is mentioned, as well as Vizcaino and La Paz. Perhaps this weill take a load off Hwy. 3 (Tecate to Ensenada), and give a multi lane road from Ensenada to Mexicali as an option to Hwy. 3.

After following the trucks to Tijuana

twice today and for the last few days dealing with my truck, I think it's going to be a blessing. That free road can be nasty!

Is this new route intended for trucking traffic only, or will it be open to all vehicles? Seems to me it might make for a faster trip getting south and/or north, if crossing at Otay is your destination.

The new road

is for all vehicles. I heard rumors of a toll but I don't think that's happening.
As far as Camalu and San Quintin goes, the new road going south of Rosarito (the free road) is so popular already that I think it won't be long before other towns start doing the same thing.
With development and agriculture growing the way it is, I have a feeling that the current ribbon (Highway 1) going down the peninsula will be obsolete soon.
Too many cars, trucks, and traffic for it to hold up under the increasing use.
I hope I am mistaken on this but from what I actually see happening here, I doubt it.
If I were any of you rich guys, I would put in a starbucks and taco bell right around the turn off to Rosalillita :light: You know, right next to the new outlet mall:no:
