Blue adds more color to an exciting week

Rancho Leonero Resort, East Cape BCS, Mexico
A report right from the source:
The week of May 18-25

Water – Water temps have crept up to about 80. Yes!

Air – Balmy days and pleasant evenings. Highs in the high 80s and low 90s.

The Environment:

Like they say on the TV quiz shows, “Come On Down!” We’ve got good flat seas with quality caballitos and ballyhoo for bait.

The Bottom Line:

A solid Leonero 9 on a 1 to 10 scale.

Marlin – Excellent. High boat was the NO DOUBT with Captain Hector at the helm and six marlin on one day. Perhaps the bigger news of the week was the arrival of the first big blue marlin. Angler Kevin Toohey released a 300 pounder on 5/24. Other news is the appearance of a few sailfish.

Dorado – Continues to be very good with the fish all over the East Cape waters. Fish are slightly bigger. We all know how fast they grow so there are high hopes of a grand dorado season. Biggest fish this week estimated to be a 40-pounder.

Tuna - They are starting to show with fish taken most days. Best bet was 25 miles straight out where our boat MOHO got into a school with fish slightly larger than football size. I am anticipating good tuna fishing soon with all the signs in place early this year.

Roosterfish – Traditionally, this has been an excellent time for boating a big gallo and we weren’t disappointed. Best fish was about 50-pounds taken at Rincon. Other biggies were ambushed right in front of Buena Vista.

Meanwhile, Back at the Ranch …

Big pargo are coming to gaff on the banks off La Ribera. Mixed in with these were some good amberjack in the 50-pound class … fish that will definitely put a bend in your rod and curl your hair. Iron was working best jigged at about 150 feet. [/img]
