Osprey
Ode to Osprey
Most all of Nomads know and revere the sometimes,poet,
writer of short stories, teller of tall tails, and beyond, a fixture in Baja, past and future, he never fails to amaze me!
I rate him up and with the old guard that I have been privilaged
to know, Bob Van Wormer, Jimmy Smith, and his wife Lupe, Jimmy
was best man at my last wedding!
When I first met Osprey, He was new in our little town, and he
and his wife had purchased a modest small home on a corner lot
and being in need of a contractor, He through our local grapevine
found me. I asked what his needs were, He said, fix what you can,
bodega, roof, but a lot wall should be a priority, as I hope to find
a dog or two worth keeping, and maybe keep the bulk of the other
creatures at bay. I asked how tall would you like your new wall to
be? He said, What is the name of your worker? Javier, I said.
Make my wall exactly the height of Javier's chest nipples!

Thanks Mike. You're the one with the stories to tell about this area -- one day you should write em down, share em with the Nomads.
Javier was your "pickup" man >> all he did was round up your troops at early bright and take em home at almost darktime. In between he did a lot
of "Observing" from a shady place at the jobsight. Takes a little while to build a long, straight wall and I knew he would be there when, if, the
cementeros were working and we would all have a stable benchmark that wouldn't move around much in the heat.

I had to go to San Jose one time to get a local girl enrolled in law school and figured I had a day with not of things of primary importance, so I and
a friend contacted Jorge and went for a visit. Well, if I enjoyed the writing, I had a much better time in person and the time went very quickly.
The father of that girl that is now a lawyer, still asks how is your friend in La Ribera, you know the one with stories of sex and hummingbirds.
In life we meet lots of people but only occasionally find a real treasure.

During my very early Nomad membership days, I was in one many of my long BCN to BCS trips.
Our final destination was to be La Paz, where we spent two weeks.
I told my wife that there is a Nomad member I HAD to visit (being a fellow writer) in La Ribera. This worked out to be almost a 100 mile side trip.
George and Lynda were the most gracious people in Southern Baja and I am glad that we made the side trip.
In the days since, we have driven twice and flown to Cabo (and rented a car) several times, and one of my goals is to always pay a visit to my good
buddy George and his wife Lynda.
