Columbia ditched off Pescadero

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDVrMV4NlVg

sole occupant survived, got out. Ditched near Los Barriles reportedly. Pretty eerie to see this bird under water.

Other than nose gear damage, the plane looks in pretty good shape (salt water aside).

Ha! I thought from title you were talking Columbia sailboat.

Another cruiser mishap? (I had an old 28', built like a tank. Lived on board for a while…)

Never mind...

Edit: Just saw video and gasped- had seen plane w/similar colors/ID at Campo Rene Tuesday and talked w/pilot who has a home in Barriles. He's a kite surfer.

I Checked my photos- same colors, both IDs had N-----Z, but different combo inbetween and slightly different Cessna. Whew...

Do all US private planes have N----Z?

Blanca, remember the plane we saw at Campo Renee? For a moment I thought it was the same one.

I checked my photo, different plane.

Isn't this the same plane that landed there a month ago?

Whale-ista :

Yes, all USA registered planes have N in the number system. Mexican registry planes have X, Canada C and on it goes - each country has a letter as far as I know.

Even though the Columbia is carbon fiber hull, I doubt that much damage under the engine at the nose gear was from hitting the water. Speculation at BPI is his IO-550 turbo'd Continental blew something and a rod or piston could take out the cowl easy.
