Punta San Jose killing
Can anyone confirm a story I just heard about gunmen storming the point at Pt Joe and wreaking havoc? Maybe shooting someone?

word of mouth - friend of a friend. Albeit a usually very dependable source, I'm skeptical.....

Pta. San Jose is north of Punta Cabras. Southwest of Santo Tomas. Northern Baja. Just south of Ensenada.

Hopefully not the same place as "Faro San Jose" which is west of Cataviña.... Ill be there in 2 weeks. Those "San Jose" guys are nice.

The story as it was told to me is that Victor - the man who for years has overseen the bluff at Punta Santa Jose (Pt.Joe, The Lighthouse) - was shot
and killed. Several cars were stolen and several others burned. It would be a very odd rumor to start for no reason. Pt. Joe has been crowded for
years. It would essentially be like trying to scare people away from Rincon.
But no evidence online is very odd. And just to be 3x sure, this is the Punta San Jose west of Santo Tomas, N or Erindira.
I had been going down there since I was in high school, but not much over the past 10 years or so. Victor was a good dude. Hope it's not true.
Anyone?

I was working all day with my son, In Oceanside and Vista today.
Someone need a map of the Punta San José just south of Ensenada?

It's been years since I've been there, but I spent many a weekend fostering my baja addiction at point joe when I could legally drive. Victor, the
owner of the land, was a very hospitable and friendly guy. I am very sad to hear multiple reports now the he we was shot.
The story as I hear it is that a bandito came into the campground in a stolen vehicle sometime just before the 4th of july. He held a few people at
gunpoint, robbed them, set his arrival vehicle on fire, and took one of theirs to escape. Not sure how Victor became involved, but reports are that
he died. The thieves were apprehended by the cops a few hours later in the stolen truck.
Very sad.

My friends were victims of the robber, and sent me a detailed report on July 7.
Bajamatic has it right, except for the part about Victor. The report said that he had been killed in February, in a land dispute.
The robber fired several shots from a shotgun to intimidate and to disable other vehicles. The police apprehended him, and the stolen truck was
returned to the owner.
Yes, Punta San José, west of Santo Tomás by 26 miles (driving distance).

Bajamatic,
No need to be skeptical. It is a credible report. My friend has been surfing there regularly for 27 years. I suggested to him that he post on
Bajanomad. Will forward this link to him, which might motivate him to post up. That is, if he's not down there surfing again!
