How are things looking in Loreto after Odile?

Headed down there next month, hoping everything is as good as it can be.

They are NOT hurricanes. They are cyclones!

Hurricanes, cyclones, and typhoons are all the same weather phenomenon; we just use different names for these storms in different places. In the Atlantic and Northeast Pacific, the term “hurricane” is used. The same type of disturbance in the Northwest Pacific is called a “typhoon” and “cyclones” occur in the South Pacific and Indian Ocean.

Note: "Northeast Pacific" = Baja

That is a very interesting picture! It is dated Sept 15 at about 3 in the afternoon, the weather report below the picture says 90 degrees and partly cloudy. A neighbor called me yesterday an hour or so later than that image. Her cell phone was still charged, and she was going stir crazy in the storm. We both live in colonia centro, about 5 blocks in from the malecon. The wind and rain were forceful and terrifying. A tree had blown down and was on the power or phone line to her house, I don't remember which. The street was flooded, she was staying far from her windows, hoping they didn't blow in. She was happy to talk to a person, as her cats didn't respond much to conversation. Of course she couldn't venture out looking for company and checking on neighbors. We talked for about 10 minutes, and decided that she should save her charge, as there was no electricity, phone or internet. The rain had been pouring since before daylight, and she said the hardest part was not knowing when it might end. If she knew how many hours it would go on it would be more bearable.

I should have reported the call earlier, but it didn't say anything we didn't already know about what was happening there, and I thought of it as a personal conversation.

So it is nice to see that they were faring well down at Ensenada Blanca. The resort is an enchanted place, and I hope they continue to enjoy the clear unmuddied water in the pools, and the soft cloudy skies.

Thank you, Paula. You are the voice of reason this evening.
I really enjoyed my visit to Ensenada Blanca, as well.
Saludos.

The picture looks like the highway south of Loreto where the road to Villas del Palmar goes down the arroyo to their drive into the resort. Bet they have stranded guests!

Thanks for the updates
I may drive down in about a month or so. I'll inquire later if there are charitable items or causes I can help bring stuff to. I'm sure there are some people in tough spots right now.

Thanks for the information. Looking for information about a boat in Puerto Escondido named "Manta" with Terry and Dawn aboard that was damaged but repairable. Thanks

This is NOT Highway 1. This is the road south of San Juanico on the Pacific Side. This is the closest arroyo to town and typically flows less than the arroyos that are to the south (and unreachable at this point).

Latitude 38 reports that Manta was holed but repairable. You can read the story at their website. It's the first piece of real journalism I've read about the storm.

Unless the Sierra Giganta has moved to the west coast the picture is of an arroyo crossing between Loreto and Ligui and not a bridge.
