road report mex1
9am sept18 we saw this at san Ignacio...a big puddle in the road north of town
first bus that tried to get thru failed
10 buses with tourists from cabo were waiting...slept there all night...very upset
we turned around and drove home
2 more days I think till safe and clear
the road has some damage between santa rosalia and mulege but has rough by-passes...
I drove thru with the versa easily and those things are low

I wanted to share the latest report on Highway 1 road conditions that were passed on to us from official sources...
Highway 1 Road conditions LATEST UPDATE
In spite of the travel warnings many of you are going to make the drive down Highway 1 regardless, so if you must go, please keep a few things in
mind...
Based on some of the latest information available, traffic is currently flowing in both directions without too much trouble to Guerrero Negro. There
is still some water at the vado in Cataviña but it is not enough to cause problems as long as you exercise extreme precaution and drive slowly.
Gasoline is available in El Rosario and with some limited availability in Guerrero Negro. Supplies of fuel there are in great regional demand and
expect possible long lines. Delays of as much as several hours are typical, waiting for additional fuel to arrive by truck.
Past Guerrero Negro the road is "open" but with a lot of limitations and potential problems.
The government has made the road "passable" at several spots around the Guerrero Negro area with some quick regrading work. The road is currently
drivable but very rough at times. Make sure your tires are in good shape with a lot of tread and a good spare.
The availability of gasoline south of Guerrero Negro is quite limited with no guarantee you will be able to fill your tank. Where you find a station
selling gasoline, expect long lines. Gasoline in BCS is currently being rationed with priority given to emergency aid and disaster response. A truck
pulling in to fill the tanks at a gasoline station where you are waiting may be called off to go deliver somewhere else, without warning.
The mid section of the peninsula also suffered a lot of flood damage in locations and some communities may not currently be equipped to handle
services such as food, gas and lodging as normal.
The further south you go, expect more potential problems with road conditions, gasoline availability and communications. There still is very limited
information for many areas, especially once you leave Highway 1.
Due to the current breakdown in communications, any accident or road emergency response will be extremely slow or even none.
If you are going to make the drive, be sure to keep your tank full, check your tires, all fluids and make sure your vehicle is in good mechanical
condition for the trip.
Pack lots of extra water, snacks and extra medications you may be taking.
Best to wait but if you must travel right now, be careful, take extreme precaution and drive safely.

a very interesting day tomorrow!
Bob, is that photo of San Ignacio on the highway? We talked to a guy who tried to get to Abreojos today and said the arroyo is still uncrossable.

I was told that the road was washed out and impassable (for now) around Campo Fisher on the road into Abreojos. They never lost electricity, just got
their internet back up last night around 9:30PM and still no cellular as of this writing. I had a travel plan to leave San Diego on 9/20, pushing out
until 9/27. Friend was going to attempt it yesterday and post updates, haven't heard a word from him yet, so...

Drove last night from Ensenada to GN, no problems at all, just a quick fix in the vado up north of Cataviña, pay attention to cattle grazing along the
road.
Laguna Chapala has some water, and lotsa puddles all over the place, be carefull if you pull over to the side, saw a semi stuck, soil its saturated.
Gas available in Jesus Maria, in GN saw a line of cars waiting in the Caracoles pemex, went today and they are serving ony 20 liters at a time.
If youre planning to come further than GN, bring cash. Theres no bank or ATM or telegrafos as midday of today 09-19-2014

woooo hoooo....i just got into Vizcaino and my guardian angels were looking after me and a Nomad buddy pulled in so I have a ride home and will sleep
in my own bed tonight with no traffic noises...grateful does not begin to describe how I feel...thanks boys!!!!
Catavina is a piece of cake....the road crews and ESSA trucks are filling in the horrific highway mess between GN & Vizcaino...we waited a half
hour to get through. Still no phone, cell or internet in Asuncion so this will be my last post for maybe quite awhile.
