press 'gato' ????

what does it mean in relationship to the telephone, i.e., am trying to call a cell phone, get a message to leave a message, leave a message, then get the message to press 'gato' I've tried the hash mark, star button, and almost all the other keys I think, but apparently anything I try isn't right...

reality\'s never been of much use out here...
