New Baja Documentary

Hi, I wanted to let Baja fans know about "La Maestra (The Teacher)," a half hour documentary we -- surf photographer and teacher Paul Ferraris and Emmy Award winning public television filmmaker Elizabeth Pepin Silva -- are making, and our fundraising campaign to raise funds to finish the film. http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/la-maestra

The film profiles a young Mexican teacher in a tiny rural fishing village in Baja, Mexico, who becomes the first Mexican woman surfer in her area. Told in Spanish (with English subtitles) using mainly Mayra's voice, the film shows how she has gone on to inspire both her students and other local women to take up the sport and follow their dreams. Through her deep connection to the ocean, Mayra has also become an environmentalist, teaching her students the importance of land and sea stewardship through hands on learning. And surfers - don't worry, we never reveal where Mayra lives, but those in the know will instantly recognize Mayra's home town. Please consider supporting our film, which will be released in late spring, 2015.

I am in. This short should get our support it is a labor of love to make a documentary.
My first trip to that little town was in 78, 2 weeks and never got above waist high. I learner how important your travel companion is, I still tell stories about him.
I did meet Sean Collins on the road out.
When they poured the concrete for the bar my wife said she would never go back she did not want to the see the place it would become, she hasn't returned. I how ever........

Copy the link and post to your other social network sites even if you don't contribute. By doing so, the word out will get out about this.

Thanks so much everyone for your support of our film. We're having a hard time raising money and worry that we won't be able to finish it. It has been an unpaid labor of love up until this point, but we now face some tasks to finish the film that we have to pay someone to do, such as a sound mix so we can pass tech eval for broadcast. Bianca one of our "perks" if you donate is a dvd so you will be able to show the film to your kids. I think they will like it!

Saw her surfing there in 2013. This seems like a great documentary.

I'm gonna show this trailer to my daughter.

I'll see if I can kick in some pesos, but in the meantime I will share on Facebook and Twitter.

Good luck.
