Donation Request for Rebuilding the boat launch access road by Serinidad

In light of the well stated concerns in the other thread here, We are making a NEW, PROJECT SPECIFIC request for donations to help rebuild the road/ramp in front of Serinidad.

Here is the procedure:

DONATION PROCEDURE USING PAYPAL:

We are using Mike Fleming's paypal account. Here is how you do that:

1. go to paypal.com

2. login as usual

3. click on "send money"

4. copy and past or just type in TO: mike@fleming.cc

5. fill in your donation amount, click "PERSONAL" and choose "gift" and click continue.

6. on the next screen scroll down & write in the note space: " Mulege Rotary road/ramp repair" then click send and you have donated.

Some caveats:
First, misspelling will mess things up so cut and paste is the way to go.
Second: PayPal may hold large donation amounts for a day or two to "verify funds" or have other similar process with your account, usually they explain that on screen or in an email. No big deal.

Third: in step 5 above, clicking PERSONAL and choosing gift eliminates the 3% paypal fee so 100% of your donation is received.
___________________________________________________
Mulege Rotary will be acting as facilitator and funds collector for this project. All funds received thru this plea will be used for this project only. Thank you for your support. We need about $4,000. Any overage received will be transferred to the Mulege General Relief Fund (with concurrence from the donors).

Not sure but the bigger of the problem may be in getting the permit or permission to build or rebuild in the Federal Zone.... even a dock or ramp
Someone needs to work on making sure and having all approved quickly... which in Mexico is ????????
Probably start with the mayor (Delagado) sp and get things in started....
Also for everyones sake... something on both sides of the estuary... just to hold the peace....

may the force be with us.....

Well, it has been placed in the Mulege forum, where it belongs.
Long story short, I have in the past spoken to the delegado (s) and was told that in order to build a new pier would take a long time to get permits.
However to REbuild an old one would be no problem.
There have been tons of attempts by many "engineers" to come up with ideas of a new pier, and none worked.

May I humbly suggest, don't build a skyscraper in a FLOOD ZONE. Get a road and a usable (maybe movable?) ramp in for the season. Another storm WILL come, and another flood WILL take it out. Usable, portable? I'm not an engineer. Never even been on a train. But those dang fish out there are calling and Chuckie can hear them, and Boy Howdy how i'd hate to pizz HIM off!!!

Well, the last 2 docks put in at this location were designed and set so they could be hooked onto an pulled away from the estuary if a flood was eminant.. But it seems that someone would have to be there with time and truck, etc to actually do that task.....
Looks like good plans are only good if someone has the responsibility of doing the deed...

A great idea though... and it seemed really a great idea at the time...

Of course if you pull it out and the flood does not happen (maybe unlikely) then you have to have the manpower and equipment to refloat it and anchor it...
Last year this could have taken place at least 3 times as there were that many close calls in Mulege...

The last dock was so narrow and wobbly it was really a feat to load and unload... but it did serve the purpose.... not to complain too much..

Que lastima! Another flood takes out the floating dock in Mulege. Here’s a photo history of the floating boat dock at the Serinadad. A great group project, and hopefully, the new one will be in place before too long.

The dock looked like this for decades…this pic was taken 15 years ago…

And then like this by 2010..(Unlike Co-Pilot, I personally never fell in the river.)

Events (floods) make changes necessary.

"The power of one, if fearless and focused, is formidable, but the power of many working together is better."

The Improvements

Over the years, I've used and greatly appreciated all the improvements to launching boats in the river at the Serinadad. Making contributions to this project gives a helping hand to all those who do the work that lets all of us enjoy Mulege.

Buena Suerte!

Who is spearheading this project?. Is there a specific plan in place?. Is any type of authorization needed(city, state, federal)?. Until I see a feasible project plan on paper with no opposition from any parties I will not throw monies into the wind...................awaiting your response.

In the Baja Catch book there is a story about Mulege that also has a picture of this dock area in an "L" shape with abut a dozen boats tied up...
Anyone have any idea of how many years ago the dock was like that???'
What storm took it away??? John, or Julio,,, I think it was gone before Jimena in 09.

Where is a volunteer or 3 to get the plans together to get this project underway...
Guessing that most are working on their own projects right now.....

The old Hotel dock looked like that in 1974. I'll scratch around for a photo or two and post it. I used to motor my old 28' Pompano into that dock and tie up, but the boat channels were a lot deeper then.

Sometime later, it was named the 'Donation Pier' and an entrepreneur would ask you for a 'donation' to use it. That was okay...he got there first.

Put detachable auto wheels on it.

Rather like what you do on the transom of a skiff. Two wheels mounted on stub axles slide into square fittings permanent on the transom and haul it out.

Two wheels rear work for the skiff, for a float I would use four or six or...??? size.

The only time they would be on the float is when it's hauled. Put it back in the water and drop the wheels and store them ashore.

EZ in/EZ out.

Been done. New dock after Jimena in 09 had this feature....
just have to make sure there is a responsible person there during hurricane season willing to store the wheels and take care of it each time there is an eminant threat...
no clue where the wheels were stored when Paul hit in 2012 and we were not expecting it to be a big flood... we were there at the time...those wheels are probably still stored somewhere...
But also,, that dock had revisions made and it was extended at least once so would have probably been impossible to drag out
Then the parking lot was also washed away so where to move it....
It all looks good on paper.... or in our brains...

But the idea is a great one...

A "rolling dock" is used at Rancho Leonero (East Cape). Rolled out each evening. Perhaps a modified version would work for Mulege?
