TMC Ferry - Topolobampa to La Paz

Anyone used TMC ferry recently - say within the last year or two? I'm seriously considering it this time. I plan to drive the 325 miles from Tucson to San Carlos the first day then drive the remaining 250 miles to Topo the 2nd day. Near as I can determine, the toll road will cost me $30-$40 - correct?

I don't plan to make a reservation but instead just show up at the terminal and hope I can get onboard within a day or two. Is that likely? Or am I kidding myself? I'd hate to be sitting there for a week or more waiting for a ticket.

Any comments and/or advice welcomed. Gracias amigos.

I think I've decided to throw in the towel on taking the ferry. Way, way, way too many hoops and gotchas to jump through and around.

I hate uncertainty and this ferry thing is nothing but uncertainties. I'll drive my usual route via Tecate to La Paz and save at least $325 to boot. Hey, the desert is mega green this year and I love to drive - what's to worry!
