Hope that includes a four lane safer road to replace 20 miles of curves and trucks.

Maybe it will replace the cartel owned dirt strip that is already out there.

Here's a pdf on the feasibility study. Interesting.

Never mind, the file's too big. Just google Ensenada International Airport and it'll come up.

why a new airport? why not improve the existing one on south side of town?

for the cost they would save improving existing airport, they could finish building the belt highway (high speed detour) around edge inland edge of town...

ensenada with a beltway and modern airport,.... that would be big time...

Because it's part of a military base and the military probably doesn't want anything to do with it.
It's time for all of them to move east where they belong.

The existing "airport" is, in fact, an active Air Force base that "lets" the municipality use the facilities. Last year the Air Force wanted to kick all commercial and private flights out of the base.

Either move the military or build a combined facility in El Tigre and open the current facility to commercial development.

Building in Ojos Negros may run into problems as that area is being developed as a wine/grape growing area.

If the new airport is built in El Tigre, it can take advantage of the improvements that will be made to the free road with the new inland toll road alignment that has already been approved and funded

this existing military airport could be shared. i doubt the military has even a dozen takeoff/landings per day.

Not the point. That would make since twenty five years ago when the military had nothing to do but protect the president, but now they have a war to fight and don't want to be bothered by Air Alaska tourists.
Their traffic has increased with Attorney General planes and choppers becoming a daily presence in the local sky.

Oso Negros would require a crapload of road improvements. But, it would also not be subject to the fog.

The new airport at Ojos Negros is expected to break ground in 2017 according to the Secretary of Tourism.

NOT- all that comes up is Wikipedia description of existing military airport. No PDF. Do you have a better link?

Might it be less expensive to build the airport up the hill for the military that would allow much easier access to the existing facility for civilian and commercial flights?

That doesn't look like it is anywhere near Ojo Negos but north of Ensenada.
