Our experience with SEGURO POPULAR

When we were in La Paz, we went down to the SEGURO POPULAR clinic and signed up - at the time we were renting there and were thinking of spending months at a time there,so it seemed like a good idea.

Then we came back to La Bocana and soon decided we would not be spending time in La Paz this year, so we recently transferred our SEGURO POPULAR contact office to San Ignacio (choice was either Vizcaino, G Negro or San Ignacio).

Last week we stopped by the San Igncaio office to set up an appt. for Les to remove a skin spot on his face.

THIS IS WHAT YOU SEE AS YOU WALK IN:

THIS IS WHERE YOU SIGN IN. I HAVE A HILARIOUS LUIS (THE RECEPTIONIST STORY, WHICH I WILL TELL YOU ANOTHER TIME)

AND THIS IS ONE OF TWO DOCTORS WHO SEE YOU TO DETERMINE AN ACTION PLAN. SHE WAS EFFICIENT HOWEVER THE SYSTEM IS AS FOLLOWS:

1. YOU CALL IN THE NEXT DAY TO FIND OUT WHEN YOUR APPT. IS

2. YOU MUST SHOW UP THE DAY PRIOR TO YOUR APPT. TO GET A REFERENCE LETTER - CARTA DE REFERENCIA

3 WE REQUESTED AND WERE ABLE TO PICK UP THIS LETTER THE DAY OF THE APPT IN SANTA ROSALIA, THE CLOSEST SEGURO POPULAR HOSPITAL.

FROM SAN IGNACIO WE HEADED OVER TO SANTA ROSALIA - HERE IS A PHOTO OF THE HOSPITAL WHICH IS UP ON THE HILL - IF YOU TAKE THE ROAD IN FRONT OF THE CHURCH, TURN LEFT AT THE Y AND YOU WILL SEE THE HOSPITAL AT THE END OF THE BLOCK.

THE INCREDIBLE VIEW FROM THE HOSPITAL:

THE HALLWAY-AT THE END THRU THE DOORS ARE THE ADMINISTRATION OFFICES, TO THE RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE IS THE DOCTOR RECEPTIONIST CHECK IN:

AND TO THE IMMEDIATE LEFT AS YOU ENTER IS AN EXAMINATION ROOM WHERE ANY WOMAN CAN GET A FREE PAP SMEAR. NO NEED TO HAVE ANY TYPE OF INSURANCE AT ALL - BE IT SEGURO POPULAR OR NOT. RESULTS COME IN ONE MONTH. THEY CALL YOU IMMEDIATELY IF SOMETHING IS WRONG, OTHERWISE COME WHEN YOU CAN

WE ARRIVED AT 3:30 FOR A 4 PM APPOINTMENT. THE DOC CAME EARLY AND HE WAS JUST BEGINNING HIS SHIFT AT 4. HE ASKED US TO WAIT (AND WE WAITED AN HOUR, SO LES WAS SEEN AT 4:30) SO THAT HE COULD SEE THE OTHER APPOINTMENTS AND THEN HAVE PLENTLY OF TIME TO REMOVE LES'S SKIN SPOT.

WE WENT UP THE STAIRS TO A VERY TINY WAITING ROOM AND TO BE HONEST, A LITTLE TLC WOULD NOT BE A BAD THING IN THIS PART OF THE HOSPITAL...BUT THE DOC CAME AND RAPIDLY TOOK CARE OF LES. HE WAS EVER SO PROFESSIONAL.

WHILE WE WERE WAITING WE SAW SOME FOLKS COME IN - THEY WERE SEEN WITHIN MINUTES OF ARRIVING. SO SO SO DIFFERENT FROM THE US :))))

SO THAT IS OUR EXPERIENCE - HOPE IT IS HELPFUL.

Come visit La Bocana

Blanca,
These "instructional posts" are wonderful. Thank you.
They will help some folks navigate these systems:saint:
