Looks like they are running the '06 Baja 1000 route from San Javier to Insurgentes. This was very "interesting" in '06 after hurricane John went
through there.

Isn't that pavement between RM150 and RM220? And if so, I'm wondering why SCORE didn't run the course along the Pacific Coast and stay in the dirt.

From rm 150 to rm 160 is a dirt ranch /village road. From rm 160 north, there are a few possible former detours that might be usable, but even if
they use the main road, the maximum paved miles will be about 13.
Wish I was going to be there!

So far there are only 31 entries with most from the US. Of course we are still a month away. The SF250 was down on entries from years past some think
it's due to the way Norman has been running SCORE. Combining the bike classes did not set well withsome of the racers. He also appears to want the
class 1s to go away as a means to increase the TTs.

I would say there are way way too many classes... almost everyone who races Score becomes a winner if they enter... some classes have only one
entrant! You are guaranteed to win, if you just finish! Great for marketing a product... but not at all possible in the old days when more entrants
per class meant more payback to the top finishers (when making money was incentive, because a lot of non-rich folks raced Baja). Now it is mostly a
rich man's sport, and almost 30 classes compete separately on race day.
The way it was way back when I was involved in off road racing...
The new classes were the 1600cc classes and Class 11.... The 1200cc classes didn't last and became 1650cc or other sizes and seating number changes.
The 4WD classes would become short and long (pickup) wheelbase and eventually merge. Class 6 included VWs, but they already had 3 other classes, so it
was changed to be for water cooled engines only. I was in Class 6, in 1979.
So, from SCORE days around 1979
CLASS 1 (single seat, unlimited)
CLASS 2 (two seat, unlimited)
CLASS 1/2-1600 (1 & 2 seat, 1600cc)
CLASS 3 (4WD stock)
CLASS 4 (4WD modified)
CLASS 5 (Baja Bugs, unlimited)
CLASS 5-1600 (Baja Bugs, 1600cc)
CLASS 6 (2WD passenger sedans, water cooled)
CLASS 7 (Mini Pickups, 2WD only)
CLASS 8 (Pickups, Vans, 2WD only)
CLASS 9 (single seat, 1200cc)
CLASS 10 (two seat, 1200 cc)
CLASS 11 (pure stock VW beetle)
CLASS 20 (max 125cc bikes)
CLASS 21 (max 250cc bikes)
CLASS 22 (unlimited bikes)

There was no way you would have a lot of motorcycle racers if it had stayed at 3. Very few 40 year olds can compete with a 22 year old. Same for 50
and 60 year old guys, 30 OK. So Sal made a class for the older guys. He also made classes for Sportsman over and under. The problem Sal made was that
except for class 20 all the classes could run a 450cc bike. While SCORE said the over classes 22 and Sportsman over was an over 450cc bike and class
21 and Sportsman under was a under 450cc bike the manufactures all made 449cc engines so everyone ran a 450 bike excect for a few than ran XR650 etc.
or two strokes.
They dropped cl 20 and 21 for an over under type system with a 400cc cutoff and combined the Sportsman into one bike class.
Sal was pretty open to making classes just to get you to race with SCORE. Norman is not a bike friendly guy because he thinks it is too dangerous to
run bikes and cars on the same course. That why he held races where the Sportsman bikes had a shorter course to run. Some didn't like that because it
felt like they were not running a full race course. The open bikers also didn't like passing the slower rider. They couldn't hold the bike race on a
different day due to cost.
They made changes to cl 1 so it is not competative with the TTs. It use to be that a TT was a cl 1 with fenders. Now as I understand it cl 1 can not
have a solid axle, like the Truggy.
But it is Norman's deal to do whatever he wants, so it is what it is.
