ISSSTE in Santa Rosalia
Well, a couple weeks ago we went to Santa Rosalia. On our agenda that day was getting my Official Medical Booklet for ISSSTE and adding Les on to it
as well.
Turns out that I am eligible as a teacher. I must admit, the building is brand new and quite impressive - does anyone have experience visiting a
doctor here? They do have emergency facilities on site.
Thought I would share some photos:

My experiences with the ISSSTE System in Mexico is that it's a 'Federal Welfare Program' set up for the less-fortunate to have staples and basic
needs, mainly dry-goods, provided with Government funding to reduce costs, taxes, and burdens. All are welcome to shop. Guide-books of over 25
years ago mention ISSSTE's, and recommend a) yes, you can shop there... b) don't get greedy, and c) GREAT prices on whatever they have available
(return to item b). When I go to ISSSTE, I have utilized their farmacias. They have good savings, moderate selection, and depending on the
farmacista, possible ordering of what is not immediately available. Otherwise, I will stock up on Oso Negro if available, and get my usual staples
there in small orders like Nutrileche Verde Media Litro, cracketas, etc.
The Sta. R. ISSSTE has a fairly well-stocked farmacia. It's my first stop in town, then on to the other two semi-major ones, the favorite one block
west of the banks.
Speaking of, the whole sector of S. R., the ISSSTE is a great venture-point for the whole dang town. If you turn right at the stop/banks/corner, and
go one street, the next street on your right has a pay-to-park for $10P that's usually available for a space or two if there's nothing near town.
Great place for embarking on a day of leisurely walking, talking, shopping (a womans' place is in the mall) and several cervezas, tacos, and general
lolly-gagging. Once done in-town, go up-street to "the top", turn right, go a half mile to Shack's Fifth Avenue in the afternoon. Park anywhere (I
prefer the middle) and stroll and shop-meet to your dream's content. Late afternoon is better than early, early evening the best.

so anyone can shop at the issste stores? good to know.
great tip on the parking for 10p but our truck is so big that it don't fit.

Blanca, I drive an F-250 full-size king-cab with a kangaroo-catcher welded on the front, and when the town is really busy, that little car-park has
the ONLY spaces my truck will fit.
IF they are available, that is.

Ok, I read your questions as to the ISSTE medical facility. It is about par for what you normally expect in Baja. The wait times are pretty long
usually and when I have had to take a friend in for medical treatment, I find that they wait a long time, but eventually someone gets around to you.
Probably about the same as Saguaros Popular at the main hospital. I do know several of the doctors that work there and they are really great people,
it is just the system that sucks. It is for government workers, which would include you, and they used to accept people who had no medical issues for
a minimal premium, but I have heard lately that it is getting impossible to get on to the system if you are not a government employee. As with most
systems here, i have had friends tell me that a little grease applied at the right time and at the right place can greatly reduce wait times.

bb I guess Les just had bad luck that day -I will let him know since sometimes he drives round and round while I run errands ....
