Did you see the video of Eduardo Laguna road raging and pushing a spectator pickup off the course?
Every year it's another outrageous story about the racers and their anything-goes behavior,... I am all for banning this ridiculous sport.
People say "it brings money." So does prostitution and drug smuggling. Money does not excuse bad things.

There has been a mixed reaction to what he did among the off-road community. First the driver should have pulled over as he had plenty of time and space to do so. Second the racer should not have turned him over, a love tap would do or just give him a little more time. However adrenalin sometimes takes over when you are going for a win. When at a Baja race you see all kinds of stupid things civilians do, usually after a few drinks.

When driving on a race course you need to listen for racers coming and watch for them too and watch and listen to those around you telling you to get off the course. The motorcycle guy did it right.

Not Laguna. You're opinion of off road racing and recreating is well noted. But at least try and get facts correct. It does bring money, and enjoyment to many - without the crime of your poor analogy. Not all like it, and that's OK. But a Mexican national hitting a Mexican national in a race in Mexico will probably not be swayed by your opinion. Poor decisions by both, sheet metal and reputation damage only.

Just my opinion.

Larry, I could tell you, but then the forum would go way off topic because my opinion is so far right from goat's and his desire to tell all of us how we should live, eat, travel, etc. :light:

David, I am with you! You have been there, and it is a love of the dirt
and the people there that keep us coming back. Off-roading has a long history in Baja! If they never have experienced it, it is hard to get them to understand. I have had to share the road with a local more than once! I have never had to bump them! Most of the people that seem to come out for these events, blows me away every time.
I don't know why there is not more incidents! I am sure money is a big factor. But for the people with little money, they sure seem to like it. Just my 2 cent's.

Yet more evidence that many off-road racers are marooons.

I'm from Alta California, so I've been numbed to the finger-wagging nannies.

I've been racing in Baja for 30 years. My observations? As a whole, the people *love* desert racing. I've spoke with a gazillion locals during the races - they're welcoming, friendly, helpful, and are watching the racing because they truly like it.

I've been in San Felipe many times to see the schools shut down so the kids can attend contingency (and they do). At the last Mil, our 10 Car got stuck in silt at a remote place along the Pacific. We were digging the car out when a half-dozen locals came out of nowhere, and without asking, pitched-in digging. I have a million of these stories ...

All forms of racing comes with a certain amount of risk - even muscle- and gravity-fueled mountain bikes can lose control and crash on the Kamikaze Downhill. Guess what? Stuff happens (BN kindly substituted *my* word with "stuff").

The Barbara Boxers of the world (you know who you are) want to control every aspect of our lives - I'm aware of that, and I can ignore it.
