Ocean Water Quality in Ensenada and specifically San Miguel
I've seen a few places that San Miguel used to have really dirty water, but then it looks like there are some organizations currently trying to clean
it up. Does anyone know the current state of ocean water quality for the area?

depends on sewage system (is there one) or if everyone flushes twice because it's a long way to the sea. the river actually flows on occasion so
there's that as well. can't be any worse than Malibu or any of hundreds of places up north.

I lived in San Miguel 1992-2002. The houses above the bluff (near restaurant) are supposedly on septic systems. How reliable those are is up for
question- they have been around a long time, and the odors at times suggest they are not functioning well.
As for houses up the river valley- likewise hard to verify. The river has not reached the ocean for a while. But, if an El Niņo is in store this year,
that wil change.

Thanks for the responses. That does not sound like something I want to mess with. You guys know anything about La Fonda? I've surfed there a couple
times and it seems clean... Is it?

That's probably OK. The closest big source of nasty stuff is Rosarito to the north.

Best bet is to stick to surfing north side of the border

Yeah, just to many variables, to dangerous 
Have fun, can't be much worse than surfing the El Segundo oil pier or the S pipe from the treatment plant for most of my childhood. Besides the extra
fingers I grew help me paddle faster

Even though I have all my shots up to date I try really hard to NOT get in the water until 72 hours after it rains on this side of the border and I
NEVER get in the water at SADM. 
My brother-in-law is a retired marine biologist and worked on water quality (ocean and land) issues for the City of San Diego for 22 years. I listen
to him.

I surfed San Miguel last weekend. There were some tiny bacteria looking floating bits in the water, but that could be anything. I've seen that a
number of places before. What I want to know is what they're dumping onto the beach via hoses coming from the industrial buildings in Ensenada just
south of San Miguel
