The sunken Mary Rose (warship)
And here goes one of the last reports from this trip! Yesterday we went to visit the Mary Rose which is on display in Portsmouth, where she was
built and where she sunk 1 mile out from where we were, and since 60% of her was in silt and then clay, much was preserved intact, brought up and now
put on display-
here is what WIKI says: The Mary Rose was a carrack-type warship of the English Tudor navy of King Henry VIII. After serving for 33 years in several
wars against France, Scotland, and Brittany and after being substantially rebuilt in 1536, she saw her last action on 19 July 1545. While leading the
attack on the galleys of a French invasion fleet, she sank in the Solent, the straits north of the Isle of Wight.

On the way to see the exhibition, we went by a village which had some very unique stone designs.....I learned that different quarries produce
different color stones therefore houses have more yellows or blue or gray depending on their local quarry.
On the way to Portsmouth, we went thru NewForest and horses graze and wander completely free - cars must beware of them day and night:

The hallway has windows and you look thru them to see the real ship as she is being worked on to keep her preserved forever:
and they had a DOG !!!

After the museum, which costs 18 pounds person, we went to eat at a pub that looked kinda worn down....since we were quite peckish and it was located
right across from the entrance/exit, that is where we went.
We loved the food -all 4 of us had a different dish and they were all truly excellent meals.

If Les had the robes on he could pass for old Henry the VIII. I love the building designs. 500 men on a wooden ship, not much room to move around I
think.

He could indeed pass for Henry VIII! I hadn't noticed the resemblance....sizes hahahaha
Some reports say there were as many as 70o men. they ate and slept on the decks. there is no written record of who was on the ship either. I guess
they just never came home. Such a shame.
The pic I took did NOT come out clearly thru the glass but they all got 1 whole gallon of BEER as part of their pay EVERY SINGLE DAY. Les loved
reading that! and they got peas twice a week. I have tried to find the rest of the info, to no avail.
