El Rosario: food & lodging.. ANY Recomendations?
Hi BajaNomads,
We'll probably be heading to Mulege in about two weeks if the current storm-hurricane pattern stays the same: it keeps heading west from Baja:

...if not then here we come San Luis Gonzaga... meanwhile we would like to find out of any recommendations for lodging and eating in El Rosario other
than BajaCactus and Mama Espinoza's, I think someone posted a review of El Turista and other options a couple of months ago but I haven't been able to
find it, any help will be deeply appreciated.

Turista looks clean from the outside. we passed it 2 weeks ago and there was a couple of cars there. hit up the taco stand near the turn, next to the
propane place. all the old tired places are just that! spread some $ around at the new places popping up.

Is this the motel that has a restaurant and a trailer park as well? There's one in El Rosario that serves really good food and has nice clean rooms...

Motel Turista (at the far southbound end of town near the bridge) has been the #2 choice, we stayed there twice when Baja Cactus was full.
Across from Turista is Ed's Baja's Best Bed & Breakfast + Restaurant and Bar. You may want to check out his place if you like B&Bs? I think he
has 3 or 4 nicely furnished rooms... Price is higher than Baja Cactus or Turista, but it includes breakfast!
The motel with the RV park behind and restaurant in front is the Motel Sinahi. Maybe rated #3 or 4 in town, depending if Mama Espinoza's Las Cabanas
motel condition is good.

We have not stayed in any hotels in El Rosario, but have stayed in the RV park and utilized the restaurant. Food for good and fairly priced.

Is there a way to make reservations at Baja Cactus?

Mi Casita is good for food. Left side after the left turn when heading south. Orange. Has wifi. Great homemade french fries. Across from
soccer/baseball field I think.

We stayed at Mama's motel about three years ago and the rooms were as awful as it can get: roaches, ants, spiders.. it was a zoo, dirty toilet and
shower, cigarette butts on the floor, stinky room... the following two years we have stayed at BajaCactus and what a whole difference it is and for
the price it's a no brainier at all!!! the place is awesome!!! However we would like to try another place this year, I think its the Sinai that I
recall from a post earlier this year here on the forum, it seems like they have good food as well.
Unfortunately Mama's restaurant is not "what it used to be" and the service is very poor, worse as time passes, its a great place full of memoirs but
I think that unfortunately the grandson that has taken it over just doesn't care that much for the place... no hay amor...

I would recommend staying in San Quintin. Many nice Hotels with excellent restaurants. Jardins, Hotel Santa Maria, Old Mill, etc...

We don't hear a lot about Ed's B&B, indeed... I think Mike Younghusband (who walked to Cabo with his burro) may have been the last positive
report? Most Nomads don't seem to go for B&B's (except Shari's)?
When did you sleep there and what wasn't comfortable? We only looked at the rooms, as we stay at Baja Cactus typically.

We got really tired of eating at Mama's and felt like the Baja Cactus was starting to show a little tired with leaky sinks and toilets and started
staying at Los Jardines which has one of the best restaurants in Baja and the rooms are top notch, especially when we found out we were only about 30
minutes from El Rosario anyway and it did not add much to the trip on in to San Bruno anyway.

TOTALLY agree with you, it seems maintenance is becoming a big factor keeping BajaCactus in top notch shape, we noticed the same things as you did but
its still the best one in town, Mama's is just going downhill... and fast...!!!

Upstairs in back or upstairs right side of office (202) are our favorites.
Some photos of one of the double king rooms:
Incredible value, excellent management (Baja Nomad member), discounts for Baja Nomad or Discover Baja card holders. Included is bottled water, coffee
maker, pressure boosted showers, in room phone can connect world-wide, Internet cable or limited WiFi (bring cable), heating/ AC/ Ceiling Fan,
satellite TV 50% English channels, off street parking, security cameras. Last time we stayed there it was still under $50!
Located as you enter town, on the left southbound, just past Pemex station (also owned by Baja Cactus).

Are they pet friendly? I tried checking the website but it is under construction with zero information except the phone numbers and email address.
