That stretch of coast where Graham is spending the night tonight (10/28) has some conspicuous rock formations along the cliffsides. I would not be surprised if Graham takes pictures of them because they are very unique.
In this same area is a very lucrative fishing spot for both deep yellowtail and white seabass. What a sleigh ride that would be for Graham on the good ol' cobra tandem!

Here is a close up look at Graham's Spot location from 10-28 (Wed.) PM. (There was NO SPOT SIGNAL today, so far)...

One of the reasons Graham may not have posted today is because there were very strong west winds (30-40 mph!) forcasted for L.A. Bay on the Sailflow site.

http://www.sailflow.com/spot/1319

Typically, when L.A. Bay is blowing, so is Guadalupe Bay to the north because the winds funnel right out of the canyons in a similar fashion. The winds are expected to persist throughout tonight and tomorrow before they taper into Saturday.

Moving south across to Guadalupe Bay would be treacherous in these conditions and would require Graham to either wait it out on a sheltered beach or secure his gear and hug the shoreline.

I'm curious t see when and where his next Spot ping registers his position.

BOLA had high winds last night and this morning. Heavy chop and whiitecaps in the bay. Eating breakfast with several fishermen at Costa del Sol who didn't go out because of the wind

Once he rounds the big point just north of Isla Smith the wind can howl out that canyon with all the sand in it, Gee I wonder why its full of sand? Once (and only once) i was out there from BOLA north west of Isla Smith 6 or 8 miles in a 15 aluminum skiff with a 20 hp tiller motor when the wind came up. the seas were as deep as I was long, 15 ft swells. Couldn't see anything but green water when in the bottom of the swell. They were just cresting with foam. Got turned around and heeded for the island and decided to go around the down wind side (outside) as it looked nasty on the inside. We were way out there. Once on the back side it was calm and we waited out the blow for hours and got into BOLA at dark. Learned a lot on that trip like the only thing between me and Acapulco was water. It would be a long float next to an overturned boat.

Cliffy
Sounds like you were located near Guadalupe Bay which is where those west winds get funneled and fierce.

According to Sailflow, Graham has a weekend of calm winds and water before the next west wind event forecasted to blow starting Monday night. He could easily make that stretch to LA Bay in three days assuming that's what he wants to do.

Guadalupe Bay has a beautiful, post card quality beach on its south end. I would wager that Graham stays near there on his next night away from his present location.

Once around the point between Guadalupe and Isla Alcatraz, Graham has a number of haul out options before arriving in LA Bay, including the beach that Mike Humphreville and his family lived on in his famed account "In the Shadow of the Volcano".

The good news being that the stretch of coast has high mountains and cliffs which will continue to shelter Graham from any more west wind events between now and then.

YUP that's the spot but I was WAY off shore (where I shouldn't have been in an oh 2 small boat but I was young and impetuous) when the winds came up. I never went that far off shore again in that little tin boat!

Graham is on the move, Sunday Morning 11-1-15

Looks like he sent a Spot signal out just after leaving his beach camp of 4 nights and cleared the rocks... Go Go Graham!

Cool, will be interesting to see where he goes up the canyons, maybe Asamblea. I was thinking my next trip would be a bike trip north through that route, jumping from one valley to the next. I'd go down Botica wash this time instead to make things quicker, plus I haven't been down that one yet. There are no oases north of Asamblea / Salsipuedes so you'd have to go down to the ocean to desalinate water in between each one, and then take a few days to ride / push over to the next. That would be some pretty remote territory. Maybe not take the packraft, to save on weight.

Something like this:

Hi Mark, yes, as you know best... there are exciting canyons in there! It drew mystery author Erle Stanley Gardner to hire helicopters to explore back in the early 1960's! He was fascinated with the palm-lined canyons and how some were burned, without human activity.
