Theft at malarrimos

Stopped for one night last week. Checked in at 10 pm took the rods and reels
To the room. Left at 5am. Noticed fishing boots and some tackle missing. Woke up the night "watchman" took while to get him to answer. He was muttering profanities and said he didn't see anything. Only a couple hundred dollars worth of stuff, but just wanted to give a heads up.

Was it stolen from a locked vehicle or from an open pickup bed?
An open vehicle in any parking lot is never safe keeping, even with a night watchman (whether awake or asleep).

Same question as Goat- were the items locked in car/cab, left in truck bed or...?

The parking lot at this place is like most in Baja: open and easy to access. In my experience: Better to lock up any items you don't want to replace, or take them with you into room. Not just at this place, but anywhere while traveling SOB, even in a "secure" parking area with an insomniac watchman.

MALARRIMO

(an easy way to remember if the Rs or Ls are doubled is that two Ls in a Spanish word make an English Y sound. LOS BARRILES is the other sample where the L is accidentally doubled).

Sorry you got ripped off in a hotel parking lot!

Yep. Open truck bed. I know better, not crying about it. First time
I have had anything taken in 40 years.. Usually have the boat with me and lock everything of value in the cabin. Truck was piled high with gear, would have taken half the night to take it to the room and back.

Thanks David for the spelling correction.
I knew I could count on you! On a side note
At the border going south bound I was asked to back
Up to get over to the X-ray lane. Apparently all
Boats get xrayed now. My friend came through
After me and popped two tires in the process.
They want you to use the bus lane if you have a boat.

Sorry you lost gear on this trip.

Sounds like overall you've had a good run. 40 years with no thefts is amazing!

Hi Blanca! They had him back over a one way spike strip!
They then escorted him into TJ so he could replace them.

Thank you for your report.
I am glad you took my reply in the positive/ learning spirit I intend them to be.
I hope your next Baja trip is less dramatic and even more fun!

There always is alot of activity along the main drag in GN at night. It's always cruise night there. The disco at Caracoles rocks into the wee hours. Doubt there was any security at the hotel.

In my opinion, the only truly secure parking if you have your truck packed etc is at Posada don Vicente as they have a high wall all around and a locked gate all night long plus a very good night watchman.

the rooms are a bit weary but clean and good wifi and even an indoor pool and very economical too.
