Dental Implants dentists recommendations
I am looking for a dentist specialized in posts and implants for my daughter that had a terrible car accident in Northern Ca.
She lost most her teeth. The few leftover teeth will have to be removed and she will need full implants. Went to UCSF medical dental school yesterday
and they quoted me 100k, small fortune. And 2 to 3 years of driving into San Francisco and parking and waiting for the student and the teacher. A
nightmare.
I would like to drive into Baja with my wife, daughter and boyfriend, stay at an affordable hotel, or buy a smallish second hand 5th wheel that I can
tow into Baja to a RV park. I have a ford f250 4x4 1995 diesel. The truck was all set up for 5th wheel by previous owner.
I am fluent in spanish,. went to high school in Mexico. D.F
I will be able to go in the summer, so living on the pacific side for the treatments would be better. Cooler weather and waking on the beach would
help my daughter through her struggle, to recover from the accident.
Please provide your feedback and ideas, I am not looking for a one day trip to Algodones type dentist work. Its going to take some time to perform her
work, healing, implants etc. 2 weeks to a month I would think.

I'm sure you will get plenty of feedback on your request, however I can recommend Dr Ortiz through personal experience.
Great guy personally, outstanding dental work. Will work with you on treatment and payment plans. He and his office staff speak English

I am not sure if my dentist does implants, but they are awesome ! Best dentist I have ever been to regardless of what country.

Deportes, the other option that you mentioned - small affordable hotel - would be cheaper and less stressful than buying an RV for this purpose. I
live in RV every winter, living space in an average size trailer is like a VERY small motel room.
When I did my crowns with Dr Ortiz, I stayed in a small not a tourist class hotel 10 miles South of downtown, in suburb called Chapultepec. Motel
Venegas at Jose Morelos y Lupita Novelo, $25 or so. I was the only non-Mexican there. TV, no WiFi, no fridge, no microwave.
A comparable class hotelito - La Quinta Bonita on the East side of highway past Home Depot and before the Chapultepec, before the airfield. About $30.
Feels like "more" secure, with a courtyard, but they said they don't close the gates for the night because there is a night guard on duty. Honestly I
don't think it's any better than Venegas, other than being on the main drag.
Then there is Azteca hotel about a mile South, on the same East side of highway. Few $ more, WiFi, more crowded and appears to be more popular with
gringos. I don't like crowds and don't care for WiFi when all I want is to sleep.
Downtown hotels I don't recommend, the area didn't appeal to me when I walked around. Hotels North of Ensenada I don't know.
You will only spend one night each time. Implants require several visits spread over 7-8 months, - in your case probably over a year or more. Spend
the night, do you thing next day and drive home. OK, maybe 2 nights if the appointment is late in the day and you don't want to drive in the night.
No need to haul all your clan there, and Ensenada is a so-so area for enjoying Baja.
OTH, if I wanted to "live" there in summer, I would consider renting a casa or departamento amueblado.
Dr Ortiz is not particularly cheap - for a Mexican dentist. The quoted price for a 2-implant bridge was 6K, or ~ 3K per. Posts with crowns are
cheaper, ~1K including root canal job. A post is anchored into root canal and requires a work-able stump. If tooth needs to be extracted, then you
can't have a post. You said she lost most her teeth, a normal human has 32, do the math. Maybe he'll give a discount for a big job, I don't know.

You might want to look into the "four on one" or "all on four" type implant.
A bone graft usually takes three or four months to heal and some much longer.
If you ask for a Strauman implant (one of the best) and you find that they don't use that brand, then find find out what they do use. There are many
cheaper materials and short cuts to getting your money.
You might consider getting the bone grafting and surgical part done in the US and after healing get the implants done in Mexico.

Bone grafting is same important as the implant itself. US dentists use synthetic materials, Dr Ortiz is using more advanced European technique with
biological material - coagulant made of the patient's own blood. Better compatibility with the bone. You will (probably) need grafting on the upper
jaw only.

I'll second this recommendation. This is a thoroughly modern dental clinic used by many Americans. Lots of hotel options in TJ. Playas de Tijuana is
the beach area and it's pretty nice.

Clinic is only as good as a particular dentist that you work with. A clinic where all dentists are top notch - not sure. Possible, in theory.
The lowest prices you'll probably find in the town of Algodones, rather than Tijuana or Ensenada. Don't know any decent specialist in Algodones, it's
a bit off my seasonal migration route.

Thank you for your posts, really appreciate your input and knowledge.
At this time we are not sure what she will need, we do know that she has titanium implants on the upper and lower jaw. We are waiting for bone to grow
and attach itself to the titanium.
When we were consulting with the specialist at UCSF he said that when you go with implants you normally don't go with 32 teeth, 24 or 26 is
sufficient.
Staying at a hotel for a few days every time makes sense, this is not going to be a weekend process.

I'm not sure if I should start a new thread or add to this one. I'm in a similar predicament and need an implant. I would like recommendations for a
endodontist/periodontist/dentist in La Paz that does the work. Prefer someone who is US educated if possible. And secondarily someone who speaks
English. Does anyone have recommendations or advice? Muchas Gracias in advance!
