I sent it to a long time friend that has a Cessna 182. I have met him in Mexico (not Baja) several times over the years. He knows and loves the
country, but only flies commercial.
Maybe this will nudge him into at least doing some more research about flying to Baja.
If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!

I thought I had read that the airstrips at Alfonsina's and mulege were recently closed? I flew down there from Vancouver in my 172 about 7 years ago
and it was awesome.

What cruising speed did you get in the 172?

My first airplane was a 172 that I flew to Baja and would cruise at 115 to 120 knots. Great airplane for flying slow and enjoying the Baja scenery.

That is pretty slow, indeed.
That's a long flight from Vancouver to Mulege at 120 knots.
I think I'm going to need a little more speed.

Hi,
My 172 has the 180 hp conversion. Does a solid 120 kts. Took 40 hours round trip and we got as far as Loreto and flew back via Nogales and up thru the
Grand Canyon.

The 210 is a good hauler with six seats and decent speed, around 200mph. If you want to go fast with a single engine piston you can't beat a Lancair
4p, pressurized with four seats and 300 to 350 mph depending on how high you want to go. It's a good 100mph faster than a 210 but won't haul as much.
I take 5hrs from Oregon coast to Mexicali to clear customs and then to Mulege in a 4p. It lands a little hot at 100 over the fence for some of the
unimproved strips in Baja so you have to be careful. Every airplane has its mission and few cover all requirements so you have to make choices.

I didn't build it, I bought it from a guy who had it professionally built. I had previously built a Cassutt F1 racer and that was enough building for
me. The Lancairs require about 4000 hrs to build.

I would not call that 'profound.'
People on vacation always say that cliche thing, whether in Maine or Mexico.
I have found that smoking pot leads one to find as profound even the most trivial things .
