Camp tools
I plan on doing some Baja off road camping this year. Normally, I always carry a camp hatchet, machete and a Becker bk9 chopping knife in my Suburban.
Are these items allowed to be carried in a vehicle Baja? I've heard of people being arrested for having a pocket knife.

Have it with your camping gear as opposed to on your dashboard.

Stuff in tool boxes even when found are always allowed. Tools are technically allowed.
Don't put knives and leatherman like things in the glove box or console.
I carry an 18" pruning saw beside my back seat and it is always questioned and allowed. These young soldiers probably do not know what it is?

my machete was pulled from between my console at the northbound Ensenada checkpoint years ago. the soldier (and the female jefe) asked what it was
for. Ratones I said. they laughed and handed it to me and sent me on my way.
YMMV. it is a tool right?

If you're going to do any beach camping it's good to have a couple of 12"w. strips of CDX plywood in the back too. Tow-strap for sure, and don't
forget jumper-cables; you may be asked to be Best Man at a wedding! 
I don't have a BUCKET LIST, but I do have a F***- IT LIST a mile long!

Please don't chop down any living tree or shrub, etc. I've been camping for 40 years and never brought anything longer than a 3" swiss army knife.

Ditto.
The desert has such slow vegetation growth, people should not burn dead or live wood. Just let the desert be, and if you need a fire bring wood from
home or the store.

Thanks for all of your comments. I only listed the items in question. I do carry many of the other items you mentioned as well, shovel, plywood
strips, high lift jack, jumper cables, tow straps, etc. and also have a 9500 lb. winch. I don't plan on cutting any trees or brush down. These items
are only for problems that might arise. I guess I'll leave the Becker at home. It's such a useful tool though. I would hate to have it confiscated.
Any other suggestions are quite welcome.

They're a wee bit pricey, but I'm a huge fan of my MaxTrax - in the past six months, they've saved my stuck butt twice. Great for soft sand and silt.

On a Tacoma, where the door latches on the door jamb works as a bottle opener - many many many Pacificos have been opened there.
