More Crazy Weather in the Owens
Looking down from the McMurray Meadows area today in the heavy winds.
A cinder cone with a dust storm behind and rain trying reach the ground.

Love pics of the Owens Valley and this is a great one!
Is the dust there being coughed up by a vehicle?
Beautiful. Like the virga, hoping it got down to the ground and settled the dust!!

The dust is strictly from the wind --- it blew like crazy today and it was a cold wind. The mountains got snow, but where we were, we were pelted
with tiny ice crystals. We couldn't wait to get back in the truck!
This evening, it looks like possibly more snow also in the Inyos and the Whites, but as it often does, it mostly jumped over the valley.

Just one more of this crazy weather around here. March storm over the Whites. Love having more snow!

wessongroup, so often I dump a lot of pictures because they just can't capture the feeling and vastness of the scene. Glad you like these. woof,
woof. and old Tommy Dog was there for both of the pictures.

First of all, thank you for the nice compliment.
While I still have my heavy Canon equipment that I have acquired since I retired, I have been transitioning more to the newer mirrorless equipment as
have many people. It is improving all the time and is sure a lot easier to carry around. I have done it all in consultation with my camera guru,
aka known as tripledigitken around here.
Thus, these pictures were taken with my Sony a6000 and a Sony Zeiss 16-70 lens that cost A LOT more than the camera, but I LOVE it. Thanks Ken. 
For processing, I am using a combination of Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop Elements, some different plug-ins and a program I recently discovered and like,
DXO.

DianaT I've always loved the photos you post and this set is no exception- they are great.
I too have the Sony A6000 and love it. My Nikon doesn't get out much now that I have the Sony. I really like how I can take pics with the Sony then
send it to my smart phone so I can check out the photos on the larger cell phone screen. I also like taking panoramic photos with it.

Beautiful photos -- thanks. I have yet to be successful with the panorama photos. Yours is beautiful and I will keep trying.
Since my Canon is gathering more and more dust, but I have a couple of really good lenes, I have ordered an adapter to try to use the Canon lens with
the a6000. In a way, it defeats one of the purposes as they are heavy lens, but for certain situations they would be good and I would still not have
to tote the Canon Camera around.

On a California side note, I see from the official snow survey website for CA that this El Nino year (that started with so much promise, in terms of
snowpack) has now dropped below average for the season. In fact, the southern portion of the Sierras is now only at 66% of normal. Statewide, it is
about 81% of normal, for this date.
I believe the snow "season" ends April 15th.

Unfortunately, this is the case. In December, after the early storms, we were way above average, but that has faded. Maybe we will have some late
snow, but we really need ABOVE average to even begin to help. It is still a drought.

There is a very nice one less than 1/2 mile off the McMurry Meadows road, as it passes the far west side of Crater Mnt
(also some good ones on the east side of the Owens Valley)
