Minimun wage in Cabo

This is crazy that the wage for non-skilled workers in CSL is 78 pesos/day as reported by the Gringo Gazette in its last issue. If so i, we, are probably spending WAY to much for our services here.

Any input?

Just sayin' that CSL is the most expensive place in all of Baja. Where we live it is the normal to be charged way more than that. Granted we all want to take care of our workers, but are they ripping us off? As a DS I pay 400 pesos for a sub-par cleaning of our home that takes 4 hours ,and more for other things. Maybe it is just me, and where we live?

Educated people in La Paz make 2000 pesos a week and I am dumb enough to pay a non educated cleaner 20% of that for 4 hours?

A fishing guide makes 400 pesos a day here and their esposa makes 3X that much for a day because "WE" pay it.
Maybe if all fo us quit paying too much (and tipping too much), paying too much for services may become more in line with what workers are used to. Just sayin'

Charley.
That's a little over 5 bucks an hour. I suggest, like your namesake, to get yourself an ambitious wifey or girlfriend, who doesn't mind a little housework.
And...btw...that's about the going rate for domestics here in Loreto.

Vandy, check your math. That equals 9.75 PESOS/ hour! I, fortunatly, have a nationalized wife who does make a lot more than most as an orthopeadic surgeon and actually passed math 101 unlike some. Just sayin'? Also nobody uses film anymore.

78 pesos/day - I don't buy it. Sounds like a typo.

78 pesos/day == 9.75 pesos/hour which at conservative 14 pesos/$ is only 70 cents/hour. Who believes paying somebody less than $3.00 for half a days work is OK, no matter how menial the work might be? :?:

400 pesos/day == 50 pesos/hour which at 14 pesos/$ is still only $3.57/hour. Hardly a living wage, but certainly fairer.

OK math teacher.
The current exchange rate is 18.50 against the dollar. which means every 100 peso hour cost you $5.40
Better check your facts before putting your foot in your mouth, wise ass

...your pathetic!!! just like the sk..m bags in San Quintin paying $200.00 pesos a day for laborers to pick up their crops with no health benefits... just read the news:

http://www.eluniversal.com.mx/articulo/english/2016/05/23/it...

...or think about how much purchase power the meager "salario mínimo" has regarding the "canasta basica" needs of a family:

http://www.economia-sniim.gob.mx/2010prueba/PreciosHoy.asp?C...

...so if you came to Baja to live like a "king" with a budget of exploitation, you should just go back wherever you came from!!! even illiterate Mexicans have a right to eat, dress and have a decent live... specially in their own country!!!

$78.00 pesos at $18.52 pesos per dollar at today's rate (http://www.x-rates.com/historical/?from=MXN&amount=1&...) equals $4.21 dollar a day!!! who the hell can live with that...!!! :fire:

The Federal minimum wage in Mexico is 73.04 pesos a day. That doesn't mean that anyone around here will work for that amount 3-500 pesos per day, plus benefits, for a gardener or a housekeeper is not uncommon.

Many of the wealthier Mexicans usually bring a maid over from mainland where the labor rate and cost of living are much, much less.
The maids generally live with the family, room and board is covered and they send their lower salaries back home to their families.
Option two is to have a Mexican family here with a relative on mainland that wants to come over and work for a year or two at a lower price, they live with their relatives here but send most of salary home.
$400p for a 4 hour cleaning is cheap here.

78 pesos/day is the current MINIMUM wage established by Mexico City for UN SKILLED LAORERS such as field workers and SEMI-SKILLED WORKERS (housekeepers/ gardners) typically make about 700 pesos/ day. SKILLED workers such as mechanics/ carpenters typically make about 1000P/day. PS: don't ever agree to pay them by the hour becuse if you do you must also pay their social security

Yeah I have some input.

But first I gotta know, do you have a swastika carved in your forehead?

You're trollin', aren't ya?

Anyway, these data indicate the average daily wage in Mexico is about 300 pesos, or 38 pesos per hour, or about 2.20 per hour.

http://www.tradingeconomics.com/mexico/wages

Way cheap, no wonder there are so many poor people in Mexico.

The reason for all this is due to stupid gringos, that used to call the peso monopoly money, opened their hands (did not know the value of the peso, and did not care) and said take what you (need) want.
I do not blame anyone not taking advantage of that situation.
Is not Mexicans fault.

Charlie $5-$8 dollars per hour is normal from my experience. Why don't you try to feed your family and put gas in your car for $5.00 an hour....:P:P:P

Yes Charlie, you're getting ripped off, anyone can see that. Don't let them take advantage of you, clean your own house, clean your own yard....problem solved. These people think they can get away with anything, quit being a victim....

No complaining or trolling. Just wanted some info. And did get some good and some stupid.

Me thinks I like to employ locals and me thinks they may be wanting too much especially in high season. Maybe to hold them through the slow season.
I just does want to find out what others thank. I does come to conclusion dat day is much smarter dan I.

Last time I checke me iphone 78/8+ 9.75 .Maybe da stupid phone not work no more

My help, cleaning lady, handyman, gardener, are paid 125 Ps per hour. Others here, with the same people working for them, pay the same.
These workers aren't downtrodden field hands.

You've answered your own question - somebody makes 400, somebody - 1200. Because we are paying. Stop paying for non-essential services then, learn how to fish and be your own guide.

It's funny to hear homeowners in Cabo complaining on paying what is less than a half of the US prices. Though I realize that there are expats on fixed income that just live there because they've been living here for half a century.

Mexicans not engaged in gringo service, like unskilled labor from the mainland working for Mex construction in Cabo - not a small crew building your home but those building hotels etc - possibly they make 78, yes. Because there is a whole sh-tload of contractors, subcontractors and top guys taking the bulk of money. Not much different from the US, dog eats dog in this great country, big news.

It is so annoying listening to gringo retirees complaining about Mexicans. Why don't you gray hair whiners all pack up and go home?!?!?
