The Valley of the Bears

This is a short version of a story I wrote about what California was like when the Spaniards first explored California. People see the bear on the state flag but most don't know what it's there. This story explains it. It's about a young Chumash Indian who lives the experience and becomes a disciple at Misión San Luis Obispo.

Go to http://msgdaleday.blogspot.com to read it. Enjoy.

Thank you sargentodiaz.
Alta California historic stories have their roots in Baja California, the first California, indeed!

Few people are aware of the San Luis Obispo Mission asistencia located a few miles from the mission. Established in the 1780's is is located on the Santa Margarita ranch and covered by a huge barn to protect it. Edward Vernon (who wrote several excellent books on Baja missions) wrote "Asistencia Santa Margarita de Cortona" which is a richly illustrated book on the asistencia. The Valley of the Bears (Los Osos, on the road to Montana de Oro state park) is a bit further in the other direction from Mission San Luis Obispo.
