Why was it canceled? I'm sure it wasn't all that fun out there with the swell running the way it is now. 10ft+ closeouts with foam that smells like downy and bleach around there.

In that pre-Google Earth and social media epoch, The Code was adhered to. It was based on a simple verity: if a locale had been transformational for you, and you had put the hard yards in to get there and to learn it, to know it, why in gods name would you broadcast the news, thus ruining the future experience not only for yourself, but for future adventurers?

10' closeouts and sewage stalled this event.

Surf terms

For the non surfers in this crowd, what is a closeout? Does it lead to a wipeout? (I know that one)

Sewage is a term I also understand.

If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!

"Could do better if he tried!" Report card comments from most of my grade school teachers. Sadly, still true!

A closeout is when the entire wave breaks at the same time. You can't really surf a closeout except to go straight.
