Border closed SB at San Ysidro, diverted to Otay

Per CalTrans: SB I-5 and SB I-805 are closed at SR-905.
All traffic diverted to EB SR-905.

Border is closed at San Ysidro

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection official confirmed the closure, and said that motorists wanting to enter Mexico would have to use the Otay Mesa Port of Entry.

Wow. I crossed Friday with no incident, clear down to Ensenada. Glad I missed the closure.

Why did they close it? Related to gasoline protests? Something else?

Thanks. I've been clicking around. They said traffic's backed up to Main St. in Chula Vista. What a mess. Evidently the protesters at El Chaparral were letting cars through, but the California Highway Patrol decided to close the 5 and 805 and divert everyone to Otay. What a mess.
